Don't feel like listening to anything.

I'm kind of stuck. I listen to Punk, Rock, Metal and a tiny bit of ska, and it's mostly Punk. I had some artists in a list to listen to in the future. But I don't feel like listening to any of them.

At school I'm usually bored as **** so I put on familiar music, usually the same artists, but if I repeat them over and over they'll get boring. I think I feel like listening to more Punk, but new punk..and I couldn't find anything worthwhile anywhere. Everywhere I go I could only find **** I heard already. Everything was either bland and boring, or something not my cup of tea.

I haven't listened to as much Rock and Metal but at the moment, they're boring me just as much. So I guess I need something different for a while?
Thing is, with other genres, I have no idea where to start. I'd need a good gateway, I just can't jump into an entirely different genre easily. But then again, even those probably wouldn't do much for me at the moment as well..but I'm not sure.

Help me, a few months ago I still couldn't stop listening to music and it was one of the things I enjoyed most, and now my lust for music is fading, I want it back :c.

You're literally asking us to do what this entire community is designed for. Go exploring. It's like standing in Nathan's and asking if they know where to get a hot dog.

Mondo Bungle 10-03-2014 02:56 PM

I think you just need to listen to more Melvins

Neapolitan 10-03-2014 03:23 PM

I get that way some days, but it passes. If you don't feel like listening to music, then read a book or watch a movie. Jog or take in a nature walk or something. You're find your enthusiasm again.

Trollheart 10-03-2014 05:43 PM

Perhaps it's time, to quote John Cleese, for something completely different?

Screen13 10-03-2014 06:16 PM

Sleazy Movie Music!

Neubauten

Cinematic Soul - Isaac Hayes

Bardot!

Sometimes you have to go to the movies! I go to European Exploitation, where you may never know what you might hear. Despite being Produced by Andy Warhol, the film was made in Europe - the mix of the Classical and Gore in some scenes is wonderful!

Then, there's this Rocker...

Janszoon 10-03-2014 06:24 PM

Here's one of my favorite songs of the moment, maybe you'll like it too:

Goofle 10-03-2014 08:18 PM

Listen to a selection of pop music you think is awful over and over again till you end up loving it.

Frownland 10-03-2014 09:29 PM

This sentiment is sort of what pushed me into avant-garde music. For me, at first it was about seeing how far music could go, then it was about finding the craziest thing to show my friends when we were smoking, but after a certain point it consumed me. So if you want to be like me (heh like it's even an "if," of course you want to be like me) push into territories of music you never gave any time before.

Mondo Bungle 10-03-2014 09:33 PM

Yeah, check this out

Franco Pepe Kalle 10-03-2014 10:36 PM

If you like some African music. Here this one. It is good.

Norg 10-04-2014 12:28 AM

sometimes I get that way when im like exploring new music I explored so much or covered a lot of ground that im like ok im tired of exploring and go back to my core ...

well kinda different from your problem but yeah lol

but to me I think u need to Dive into the Melodic and mellow side of music IMO u need that balance IMO

Ever tried listening to Wolves in Sheepskin and Bauhaus at the same time?

Black Francis 10-04-2014 11:47 AM

Sounds like you're in a bit of a music rut so i suggest it's time to explore other types of music..

I myself go through this music rut too from time to time and it's during that time i seek out different new bands to renew my interest in music.
i always go back to alternative eventually but each time i venture outside my comfort zone i always comeback with a few new bands to expand it.

^ Basically this

Isbjørn 10-04-2014 11:51 AM

If I'm in need of new music, I go to Rateyourmusic.com and check out the top lists. If I'm in the mood for, say, alternative rock, I look at the top 100 alternative releases, pick one I haven't heard and listen to it.

You know, they actually fit rather well together.

Trollheart 10-04-2014 02:33 PM

You might find this one a bit more accessible...

Mondo Bungle 10-04-2014 11:50 PM

I recommend these to you:

Pet_Sounds 10-05-2014 06:42 AM

How about branching out a bit and trying some psych? Strawberry Alarm Clock or Jefferson Airplane, perhaps?

Dylstew 10-05-2014 12:26 PM

Actually, I've listened to two Sly & The Family Stone albums for the first time(Plus a few songs), and now I'm listening to James Brown for the first time.

I just forced myself to listen to different music I've never listened to before, now the urge to actually listen is slooooowly coming back. Some of the recomendations on this thread are interesting though, I'll take a look at them sometime, but tommorow I'm going on a school trip for four days.

This is only the beginning my friend. Get ready for a musical revelation like you would never believe.

I see you like metal. I should hope you've gone backwards and looked at the roots, but if not, here's a classic. Incidentally, it's exactly what I'm listening to right now. The ending guitar solo is insane.

Also, this one is amazing. The album it comes off of, Master of Reality, is a MUST LISTEN if you like metal.

Finally, Motorhead. These guys fuzed the speed and snottiness of early punk with the power and rif***e of early metal. They essentially helped start the thrash metal genre. This song is probably my favorite by them, and the start-stop-start of the end never fails to get me pumped as hell and ready to punch someone.

And now for something completely different. Herbie Hancock's "Palm Grease." This is the first song off of the first jazz album I ever listened to, and it's still one of my favorite jazz songs, and it's definitely my favorite jazz album of all time. If you liked some of that funk stuff, you'll probably be into this, because it's funky as hell. I understand if you're wary of jazz, it seems like it's too "boring" or maybe you associate it with snobby pricks who feel superior to everyone else. But look at the technicality and solos like a well composed metal song- difficult, complicated, and requiring someone with a great understanding of their instrument to play. And if you hate it, hey, at least you tried.

`
Iron Maiden was actually one of the first Metal bands I listened to. I've listened to all Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath albums. I've also listened to a few Mötorhead albums, I like them.

the thing that would make it hard to enjoy that last song you posted is the length. I'm not a fan of long songs :c. But I am interested in Jazz though, it seems like a pretty cool genre. It's just that I'm not used to instrumental music(aside from video game music), and a lot of it is.

Pet_Sounds 10-06-2014 08:02 PM

I don't listen to much jazz, but Dave Brubeck and John Coltrane are pretty awesome. I believe they're "cool jazz".

Coltrane isn't cool jazz.

Frownland 10-06-2014 08:44 PM

Depends on which era of Coltrane you listen to.

Not that I'm aware of. He pretty much went from bebop to free jazz. I don't think he was ever a part of the cool jazz thing.

Pet_Sounds 10-06-2014 08:58 PM

I don't really pay attention to genres of jazz, TBH. What's Miles classified as?

I was thinking mainly about his spots on other albums, but ballads and Coltrane for Lovers sound pretty cool jazz to me.

I'm not familiar with that album but surely we can agree that cool jazz is not what he's famous for.

Frownland 10-06-2014 09:11 PM

Very true, but still, cool jazz.
