Batlord has explained why he likes Cannibal Corpse. I still find myself in confusing as to why his fondness of that band is so strong. Not at all bad musicians. But I just think the music is so dull.

Regard a band like The Smashing Pumpkins...over rated among many, and Billy Corgan can be an arrogant ass.

You should have read the UK weekly music press in the early 90s.
They were despised

I used to love them. Then I bought Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. They have some great songs, but other than that it's like they have their own distinct sound, and yet they also have none. I don't know how to explain it. Other than that 90% of their music that I've heard is dull. And their biggest hit is an imitation of "Smells Like Teen Spirit". Take that Smashing Pumpkins fans.

I thought that the Smashing Pumpkins at some point were regarded as some kind of weird Nirvana clone? Maybe I recall incorrectly, but it sounds right in my head. Smashing Pumpkins had some songs I really liked, but like you said, they were primarily a pretty dull band.

It wasn't one article it was pretty much every time something was printed about them.
No idea about anything online, but look for a journalist called Everett True. He led the charge.

Edit: here's a treat for you. Everett True reviewing the deluxe edition of Siamese Dream

"Zero" will always be one of my all-time favorite songs though. That riff is amazing. **** "Bullet with Butterfly Wings" though. Never gave a **** about it even when I liked them. What a retarded name too. "Hey, guys! I'm a ****ing poet! Look how ****ing poety my song title is!"
