How long did it take for your current taste in music to evolve?
I can't really answer, as I've only been truly exploring music for a couple of years, and my tastes are still evolving. But:
When did you discover your genre of choice? When did you discover your favourite band/artist? When did you last discover a new genre? Would you consider your tastes set in stone? Overall, how long have you held your current tastes?

I don't have a genre of choice. I love a lot of different genres.
I don't have a favorite artist. I have boatloads of favorite artists. I'm not sure how to answer this. I'm not sure what counts as discovering one. Definitely not. They're constantly evolving and expanding. A day? Like I said, they're always evolving. |

Honestly, from 16-30 brother has been a very wild musical ride.
I think its honestly more a question of when your desire to stop discovering music kicks in. It hasnt happened to me in my heart but in my day planner yes its come to a stand still right now. I don't have the time, like I used too.Makes me sad

I'm in the same situation, but I'll reply anyway. When did you discover your genre of choice? I try to listen to as much different stuff as possible, but mostly it's metal and indie/alternative. I discovered metal when I was eleven, I think. Not really sure. My dad and I were at a mall, and I think we were discussing music or something, I don't remember. Suddenly he asked if I liked Metallica (even though he's not the biggest metal fan himself), to which I replied "no". He asked me if I liked rock music, I did (Queen and Springsteen), so we went into a music store and he spontaneously bought me the Flight 666 live album by Iron Maiden (my dad's cool). It was the heaviest shizz I had ever heard, but at the same time it was hella catchy. I didn't start listening to metal for real until a couple of years later, though. When did you discover your favourite band/artist? I didn't know about The Smiths until a while after I registered here. When did you last discover a new genre? No idea. Would you consider your tastes set in stone? Nope, I want to try different stuff. Overall, how long have you held your current tastes? I don't really have an answer. My taste is constantly changing.

Personally, my tastes have changed over my whole life though I will admit the rate of change has slowed down over the past decade. The biggest reason why is that I've virtually every style of music there is so little new stuff surprises me anymore.

I first "discovered" music late in middle school, which is probably pretty late for a lot of people on this site. I got into it pretty quick, but it wasn't until I really became a Metallica fan and learned about thrash metal that my obsession began. Ever since, the vast majority of music I've listened to has been metal, and most of that of the eighties variety. I've since branched out to a lot of different kinds of metal, but that kind of eighties metal will probably always be the core of my musical Bible. For a while I was a metal-only guy, but around my early twenties that dam broke, especially after I started posting on this site, and I've been opened up to a lot of alternative and the kind of art rock and proto-punk that was alternative before "alternative" became a thing. Lots of stuff other than that: hip hop, pop (the ****tier the better), punk, classic rock, and even a bit of country and electronica/techno/industrial/whatever more recently. But metal is still my mistress, with alternative running a respectable second.
