Recording equipment help?

Hey I'm new here so I hope I'm posting in the correct place haha. So I've recently decided I want to start recording music, I have 0 experience with any recording equipment though so I thought I'd take some suggestions from some people. I'm looking at a small studio setup, and I've got around a 3500$ budget. I sing alternative/indie style vocals and I'm mainly looking at using acoustic instruments (mainly guitar). Any suggestions with a mic setup or different recording programs would be really helpful. Thanks!

Thats a good chunk of change to spend on equipment. Here's a generic outline of the necessities you'll more than likely want to get:
  • One or more good microphones.
  • A recording interface. USB will generally have more latency than a Firewire connection.
  • A decent PC or Mac (Mac seems to be the preferred workhorse although I've never used one).
  • A DAW (Digital Audio Workstation). Such as ProTools, Reaper, FL Studio, etc.
  • Sound dampening material (depending on the room you're doing this in).

There are thousands of articles on the How-To's out there on the net, and here's a great place to start:
