Default Technical Music Question

I am new to our local community band and am running into things that I did not learn in high school band. I asked the director to explain my questions, but he just kind of talked over my head...and I did not understand.

My questions are: What is meant by playing music in "one?" and What is meant by playing a song in "two" when the time signature is 6/8?

Can anyone please explain? Thank you!

Don't know. 6/8 is 1 2 3, 1 2 3, 1 2 3, etc. Maybe your director is referring to one whole note per measure?
