I like this idea. And theres no cap for how many albums we can put forward..?
Either way this would likely be the one i would choose if that's all i got 22. In den Garten Pharoas by Popol Vuh (1971) I really cant put how this album makes me feel into words, or atleast to do it any kind of justice. It's pure spirituality. The first track is breathing, or living. Splashing water, tribal drums, the serene and almost spacey synth. Towards the end of it, it sounds like drugged elevator music, but it really does give the feel of laying in a lush garden. Just being. The second track is almost the complete opposite. Dying. A bellowing church organ plays through. A crash of cymbals here, a distant chant there, Vuh is probably the most intense piece of music that I have ever heard. And it just keeps building and building as the drums come back. God, I actually feel like I'm spoiling the album by describing it. It's life and death in one record. Music for finding inner peace. Just listen to it dum dums. Last edited by Ninetales; 08-19-2014 at 11:38 AM. |

23. Psychic TV - Pagan Day (1984) ^get it? Pagan day is not just a wonderful stripped down album but also a unique look into the song writing process....it was recorded in a YMCA boarding house in NYC on a 4 track cassette player and at this time Psychic TV was just Genesis P-Orridge and Alex Fergusson most of these songs appear with proper studio versions on other albums....but this album has a particular sweetness to it....and in my opinion is a perfect introduction to band with such a massive discography there is also an amazing cover of Pearl Before Swines Translucent Carriages....which was in fact my introductuion to the band itself if you look into this album i suggest the 1994 re-release as the bonus tracks (including a 24 minute tape collage featuring William S Burroughs) are well worth it |

24. Cocteau Twins - Heaven or Las Vegas (1990) Some of the most beautiful dream pop ever made, primarily carried by Liz Fraser's mesmerizing vocals. Each song is absolutely exquisite, all of them being just accessible enough that anyone can enjoy the gorgeous melodies but also complex enough to greatly reward anyone that wishes to sit down with it and give it focused, repeated listens. Definitely a work of art that deserves an emphasized spot on any list like this.

gonna do a couple more
@Zombeels....thank you and i'm glad you liked it 25. Cows - Sexy Pee Story (1993) with all this talk about grunge i figure might as well bring out the big guns and share a little secret....COWS is what all of those bands wish they were or could ever be and Sexy Pee Story is Cows opus....from the opening track Blown to the ending of the album you go on a wild ride into the transgressive mind of a modern day existential nihilist....but don't worry Cows hold your hand gently while raping the shit out of your mind.... this album is driven by Thor Eisentrager's jangled, noisy guitar and powered by Kevin Rutmanis's forceful bass....but the real milk of Cows is it's truly insane frontman Shannon Selberg....right from the get go you know your in for a real treat....think about it the band is Cows, the name of the album is ridiculously stupid and there are song titles like Shitbeard and The Ouch Cube.... heaven right? |

time to get real
26. Gavin Bryars - The Sinking of the Titanic (1990) although he originally wrote and release a shorter version in 1975...i prefer the longer 1990 version pictured above inspired by the story of the band that played as the ship went down....this piece of modern classical is nothing short of pure emotion....with the concept of what it would sound like and how it would feel to hear and see this amazing feat of humanity....it follows the band...playing Autumn all the way to their final resting place on the ocean floor from wikipedia "The work was radically reworked from the earlier piece and included fragments of interviews with survivors, Morse code signal played on woodblocks and the sound of the iceberg as it collided with the ship amongst other new sources. This performance also included two ensembles of children: an all-girl string ensemble, which included two of Bryars' daughters, and the Wenhaston Boys Choir. The work was performed in a Napoleonic-era water tower; the musicians performed in the basement of the tower and the audience listened on the ground floor. The empty top floors of the water tower acted as a giant reverberation chamber." the song itself opens with the song Autumn and takes the listener on an amazing and emotion journey...the first time you listen to this piece you can almost always hear a pin drop when it ends.....it leaves you speechless and heart broken but strangely optimistic this is one of those albums that is a true testament to just how powerful music can be and should be heard by everyone at least once |

27. Los Halos - For Ramona (2002) Stripped down singer/songwriter with a bit of a dark tinge to it. Eli Wegner's second output as Los Halos finds reccuring themes of sin and redemption. Note: I've been looking everywhere for this CD. If anyone comes across it sell it to me please.

28. Luxuria - Unanswerable Lust (1988) If you're looking for a cool kind of Pop/Post-Punk hybrid, this is the one for you. Lovely song writing, catchy production throughout and some great choruses. I would consider it the best album Howard Devoto has had any involvement in. And trust me, that's a massive compliment for this album considering the discography he has. The highlights for me are Celebrity, Rubbish and Mlle. I'd quite happily place any of those tracks in a "Top 100" list and feel justified in doing so. One thing I would say is that it's probably a grower. You need to let this album sink into your pores and become a part of your being.
