regarding the stooges i don't know alot about them but i don't hear them get mentioned often and get highly praised which i think is the main reason why ppl start to oppose a band and start calling them overrated.

i personally don't think they are overrated cause honestly i don't really care much about them i recognise the impact they had on music but that's about it.
Yeah, I definitely preffered the first few albums over the later ones.

I get the feeling whenever Iggy dies there's gonna be some big thing made of it. Rolling Stone'll do a big story about it as if it's more culturally relevant than it really is, then maybe a bunch of other pop culture magazines, then maybe a celebrity news show or two, and it'll be a semi-big story for about a month. It might not make him quite a household name, but the hipsters and a certain sizable amount of young people in general will suddenly be the biggest Stooges fans, and next thing you know they'll be Slayer-famous with shirts in Hot Topic.

Being a site with also a fair share of non-alternative kids I also see the opposite plenty. Prog rock? Yeah. The Beatles, one of the Golden Gods of rock 'n' roll, gets trashed almost constantly, either honestly or by people trying to be different. They get plenty of worship obviously, but plenty of the other kind too. There just isn't any consensus on who sucks and who doesn't.
I have a love/hate relationship with some of those bands mentioned. For the most part I love them but I don't think some of them are perfect and I might be critical of the fanboyism of those bands.

I am always curious to the how and why certain bands from the past get notoriety that kinda makes them seem more popular then they were in their day. Especially when they or really didn't public attention cause they were more underground, or broke up before they could make it big. I think it was Iggy stage antics that help him to procure his bands notoriety for generations to come.

The Evolution of Iggy Pop.

1. Gene Vincent was one of the first (if not the first) to don a leather jacket and leather pants.

2. then Jimi Morrion lost the leather jacket

3. then James Newell Osterberg, Jr. lost the puffy shirt, and voila Iggy Pop

Funny, I was thinking the same thing about Jimi Hendrix.
