Default Why Have I Never Heard Anyone Say that the Stooges Were Overrated?

I've heard people say that just about every band associated with punk or proto-punk were overrated. There are all sorts of people on this site who I've seen bash the Velvet Underground, the Sex Pistols, the Clash, the Ramones, etc, etc, etc. Being a site of mainly alternative kids classic rock gets more than its fair share of detractors. Being a site with also a fair share of non-alternative kids I also see the opposite plenty. Prog rock? Yeah. The Beatles, one of the Golden Gods of rock 'n' roll, gets trashed almost constantly, either honestly or by people trying to be different. They get plenty of worship obviously, but plenty of the other kind too. There just isn't any consensus on who sucks and who doesn't.

And yet, I don't think I've ever heard anyone say anything other than that Iggy Pop is a god and that the Stooges are the beating heart and soul of rock music. I'm sure plenty of people aren't that big on them, but I've never seen anybody go so far as to actually trash them. Is this band just one of the only ones around that everybody and their mother can at least agree most certainly does not suck?

Disclaimer: I ****ing love the Stooges and will likely commit suicide if I ever meet Iggy, as my life can only go down hill from there.

@ Mods - If the mods feel the need to merge this with whatever Stooges thread already exists then that's cool, but I just wanted to start this specific discussion in a way that people could see without having to actually click on the thread. So if it's cool I'd like to keep this thread separate.
