lol well, I will digress. I don't mean to imply you don't know what you're talking about. It is clear that we have a few different opinions on what a good singer or vocalist is. I think Jared Leto isn't half bad at what he does. You think he sounds worse than a cat getting screwed. That's cool. Not that it matters. But the majority of 30 Seconds To Mars s/t is better than anything they've put out after it.

And to clarify. I wasn't comparing Freddie Mercury to Jared Leto. I'd be crazy to do that. I was attempting to make a point. A point that failed, clearly.

And to everyone else. Stop thinking I'm not prepared for people to disagree with me. This is called debating, or a discussion. Unless someone says something completely stupid. Don't expect me to piss all over someone or their opinion. If you think what I've said to Hale was extreme or ridiculous. That's cool on you. But I went in to this with a calm temper and retain it still. All is good here. There's no bent ego.

EDIT:

Hale, sometimes bloodshed is good my friend. So let it flow! The popular songs are always what you will hear. The bands good material from their s/t just became a platinum record recently so, that says something about peoples taste. What the band writes now is to appeal to the specific audience, like you pointed out. They are capable of putting out better material. I don't say that to sway your opinion of the band by the way. It's just a general statement.

Discussion is good. I don't take any offense to anyone ever with an opinion on music. I think its great that people can take something different from music of all genres and now in this day and age we can discuss it. I can clearly see you are fond of the self titled. I remember it being a big hit back when it came out which is why I initially gave it a shot. And for all the people that are quick to jump on the guy, let him have his opinion and lets keep the discussion going on vocalists, no harm no foul. I didn't find anything harmful in your post so have at it. As for them having the ability to produce better music, I can only hope so. :p:

And we can at least agree that Jared Leto is far from the worst singer out there.

I would guess that their s/t is their only album you found decent is some way.

Yeah, I reckon they can produce better music.

I haven't even said what I consider a great or even a good singer in this thread so far. I think I will detail that after work.

I can agree with that. I am not fond of their music in anyway self titled included, but that just leaves more music for the masses to eat up. I'm not a real fan of top 40 alternative which is what i would deem them. If I had to like a similar band per alternative choices it would be Incubus, which get alot of flak themselves. Great singer is such a personal thing, that I don;t think there is ever gonna be a wrong answer. Hell I think Weird Al is a excellent vocalist. :drummer:

No, you're spot on saying they're a top 40 band, especially now. Fits them perfectly. But I prefer more underground or under the radar bands. Commercial or mainstream music is pretty bland right now, compared to years and years ago.

I am a huge Incubus fan. Brandon Boyd is a pretty phenomenal singer. Incubus as a band is pretty tight, good musicians all around. I don't even mind how much their sound has changed over the years. They started sounding a bit similar to Linkin Park, even though Incubus was around and had records out before Linkin Park...I just think their sound at one point had similarity.

Brandon Boyd is on a different level lyrically then most top 40 which is appealing to me. I like their quirky mixes on record and they have alot of dynamics in their music and changes i can get behind. I get **** from my bros all the time when i toss them on, but they all have their musical skeletons in their closets as we all do. **** Bob and Goofle think Lana Del Rey has the best album of 2014.

Speaking of good singers, im not a big fan of the velvet underground but i luv Lou reed's singing voice. it doesn't have alot of range but it sounds cool as sh*t.

He did have a kick ass baritone voice. Lots of greatest vocalist in the baritone range that get passes because they are just so damn cool sounding. Barry White gets a pass because he has the coolest sounding voice on the planet less James Earl Jones.

Speaking of cool voices, and this person isn't a singer by the way. Morgan Freeman. That dude has a cool voice.

Haha, I'm curious to know what you will decide upon hearing him. I recommend listening to one song from each album; s/t, then A Beautiful Lie, followed by This Is War, and then their most recent Love Lust Faith & Dreams.

And if it isn't already obvious. I am a fan of 30 Seconds To Mars. ****ing crucify me haha.

I heard the songs that you mentioned and I dont really think Jared leto is a good technical singer. His emotion seems manufactured as well but if you like it I can respect that. I had no idea he was a singer. I loved him in Dallas Buyers Club. He is a great actor

Emotion and feeling in the voice or scream. Meaning and depth. And in live performance, interaction with the crowd. Not just general hey what's up.
