Free Improv
I have been given the opportunity to do an assignment where I get to choose what I do. I have chosen to get the artists into the studio separately and give them free reign in regards to making a random "Free Improv" song.
The artists wont see each other and they wont know each other. I was thinking of getting the guitarist/s in first, tell them to create something off the top of their head (Including verses, choruses and a bridge), then once that is complete, ill give it to the bass guitar player and do the same thing, then to the drummer, then to the vocalist. I was just curious as to what other people had to say about the idea, any tips and yes, I can take harsh criticism. I have access to a Behringer EURODESK, an ASP8024 desk, a Yamaha 02R digital desk, a C24 desk and a NEVE desk, along with live rooms for each. Plus a fair amount of microphones and a lot of professional help due to the recording desks being in a University. Thank you for your help guys |

I've seen this done many times, and just finished one of these myself a while back, except we did it over the internet, with a few different countries involved.
Suggestion: Drums first then bass or rhythm, and then everything else.

Ive also decided to record the drums in weird acoustic complimenting place.. Not sure where at the moment but I want to be able to not have to use any inserts/edits for the drums, I just want the environment to be the edit if you know what I mean (: |
