Doo-wop music
Anyone here into the oldies?
i have a soft spot for doo-wop music, it's so sweet and harmonious but sadly idk alot of Doo-wop music which is why i made this thread so i can find more about it through you guys. I'll start with a fairly popular one (He called her a whore btw) OH, 2 things plz 2 vids max per post Also feel free to talk about any doo-wop group you want but plz put a song of the group as an exmpl QUICK TIP: Most of this music is copyright protected but if you're lucky you'll find a live version of the song that is not. |
I'm frankly not a huge Doo-wop fan, but Ronnie James Dio started off doing it. Fun little fact I had to share.

And he sounded good too. |
Right? Well I'll be watching this thread, because I do like some of his old stuff and am open to more.
|
it's a shame the original recording is copyright protected cause it sounds amazing to this day. |
Some of the above songs I would not define as "Doo Wop"
I love Doo Wop! Nice thread!!! |
Fellas take notes, Doo Wop was how you got the ladies!
I wish men today were this smooth... |

There is nothing on earth that means less to me, since as far back as the '70's, as the potential for any style of music to get me laid. |

How does "thats how you got the ladies" implies you have to sleep with them? Doo Wop genre and singing talent of a male was a very attractive quality and considered charming during that time. |
@Realtalk
thank you, but plz limit your post to 2 vids per post if you can. Also, what did you mean you don't consider the above as Doo-wop music? if it's not doo wop what is it called? |

Maybe so but I'm saying I don't care, at all, ever in my life, how my musical interests reflect in any perceived attractiveness to others. I grew up listening to the progressive rock of the 1970's, groups such as Gentle Giant, Jethro Tull, Yes, Emerson Lake and Palmer, so on. Girls HATED that music and I was pretty unpopular with them despite being a very handsome young man. Didn't care then, don't care now. I mean no disrespect to Doo Wop music, on the contrary. |

Obviously not the same planet your on That phrase could mean many things it does not necessarily mean "sex" It could mean "winning them over" Attraction Charming them to win their affection and so forth Quote:
I see your point. I just personally liked the male groups during this period and liked the way they dressed, the charming personalities and the charming lyrics. It was a style that was also reflected not just in music but the way men treated women during the period as well. I just admire that, thats all. |

I am not speaking from a social and economical point.... Compared to that era and this era, men were gentlemen compared to how these triflin men act towards women now. So are you saying men are more polite now towards women compared to that era? I disagree. |
No but I am also saying they weren't more polite back then either.
Women were treated like second class citizens. |

But we are talking about two different things love. Once again, I am not speaking from a social and economical point because if I was then my opinion would be different but as far as chivalry and benevolent sexism is concerned, women were treated with more respect and courtesy because they were women and men felt like they needed to be "protected" It definitely ain't like that in 2014 thats all I'm saying. |

I think you are both right, yes women were treated like 2nd class citizens but men were more respectful about how to treat a lady.
if you listened to the songs, men were serenading women not saying to them "Drop it like it's hot, bitch" or wthvr it is they say to bitches nowadays. idk anybody in the world who think this is a bad song and im pretty sure we all know it. (all women btw, just saying) |

Your still talking about social class. I am specifically talking about how a man wanted to attract or win the affection of a potential female partner compared to today's society In today's society, a man will holla out the we window, "hey shortie" "hey boo" "nice a%$"... they might even try to hug you and you don't even know them! Back in the day it was not like that. That is disrespect. Men do not hold the door anymore... among other things. It is a generational thing. |
You know why chilvery is dead? Women killed it but that is a whole other topic and we have gone OT enough as it is.
|
Quote:
Chivalry is dead because these men today are not real men and don't know how to treat a lady. Notice I say lady and not "women" and your right we have went completely off topic lol |
Men are neither funny or actually real men.

Doo Wop is mostly a vocal based genre. Most of the songs build off of the harmony of the vocal parts of a singing group. However, most of the Doo Wop songs have a repeated loop beat that is commonly used. The beat can be created by instruments or by vocals. It may have other instruments and sounds added to that distinct beat but it is commonly used in the genre and some of your original above posted songs did not have that. The harmonizing along with that distinct beat/rhythm separates the Doo Wop genre from other genres. |
