That'd be my guess anyway.
Or else I'm drunk.

Well in Cobain's death i wouldn't interfere cause idk if he killed himself or he was killed.

I co-sign this.

Smeme is definitely a thing now.

Agreed. I remember when M2 started up. Around a lot of The US, however, they just switch on the one station, M2 flew only a little but it was too little too late. Most of The US only goes for the first channel, and apparently has no interest in looking elsewhere or checking out the other stations when you look at all of the complaints...although I will say that they might be the ones who just may complain about the programming if they were around at that time (some people think they were not born to be pleased).

Still, the main point is that it's all about the timing, and this was really before the Internet took away MTV's once-strong hold on the format. The rise of the alternative in Popular Music (Hip Hop, Grunge, and even EBM...er, what was marketed as Industrial for starters) was breaking a lot of what happened in The Late 80's with Grunge taking over Hair Metal and 90-1 when the Ice Ice Babies were cheapening the world or Rap. Even if it was for a fashion, the Alternatives were starting to look real good, but with Viacom looking over their shoulder, wanting a steady stream of ratings (OK, their point taken and understood), the success of The Real World really made them ditch the Video-centric programming which really was going overboard anyways, especially with the labels losing money on expensive videos that were pretty much given away to the network (I'm sure with the bills going to the bands I think), killing a lot of what could have been the second round of forwarding the music with a broader spectrum instead of just the Pop/AOR format it had in the so called glory days. Even if the Alternatives would go away (and they did), the Music would have never stopped at least, but a TV Network company is the kind that will seriously switch thing around to the point where it's only a regular TV Station with some bits of music here and there and with their shows attracting the Small Dots and the Trailer Parks resulting in regular money generating ratings (at least I think...I could be wrong...), it will continue with their programming. Those looking for alternatives have many things to choose from now, but MTV lost that step in a very crucial time - I have had many complaints about it, but that's not where I'm going to.

The Real World sparked a lot of annoying trends on TV, especially that of the "Reality" TV Show genre. The 15 Minutes of Fame thanks to a camera pointed at someone dealing with Drama all added up. The Big Mistake was that with the success of the show, it encouraged a lot of crap both in media and in life in general.

Things should have focused on Music and not Human Drama. Although looking at the success of Musicians is very shallow at worst, it's at least looking at accomplishment and not encouraging people to add Drama to their lives in the hopes that they too will actually be in foront of a camera...in a way that was the first spark of all of the garbage you see on Facebook and other Social Platforms. Just my opinion.
I agree with most of what you are saying but the more video focused channels are MTVU which plays in colleges. There were TVs on the wall in my dining area that were always tuned into MTVU which would play all the indie crap that kids love today along with some alternative hip hop stuff but mostly indie.

MTVJams plays all the hip hop from new stuff that has come out this week that's in heavy rotation to classic jams from the 90s. It kind of reminds me of YoMTV Raps.

MTVHits plays mostly the pop stuff but they do have different programming where they will play a certain genre like there is a segment called clubland I believe it's called where they play EDM.

The people that whine about MTV are definitely just talking about the original channel but they have branched out so much more than that with these other channels.

MTV2 is still around but it basically became similar to what happened to the regular MTV channel. Also the regular MTV channel DOES play music video blocks but you have to be up stupid early. It happens like between 4am to 6am.

Late 1960s? - Demonstrate to Keith Moon on holding a damn drink. Restless and responsible sounds better.
