Irrational music love

So, like, the opposite of that other thread.

Artists you like which possibly goes against your general tastes in music.

I would say Union J, Take That and Lil B for me.

Clarification: I understand that people "Like what I like" etc, and that's reason enough to "rationally" enjoy something, but it's fun to see what anomalies people have when it comes to taste.

Paul Smeenus 02-25-2014 01:59 AM

See the link in my sigfile

Janszoon 02-25-2014 02:50 AM

I don't know if goes against my general tastes but I definitely have an irrational love of Billy Idol.

Dylstew 02-25-2014 03:30 AM

Doesn't go against my general taste, but I'm not sure why I love it so much. This album:

The Suicide Machines - War Profiteering is killing us all.
It has hardcore punk, ska punk, and pop punk combined together pretty well.
It's simple and fun, but I'm not sure why I love it so much.

Opening track(no sign of ska punk here though):
the Suicide Machines - War Profiteering Is Killing Us All - YouTube

Jukeboxfin 02-25-2014 07:26 AM

I'm in my 20s and I listen to an unnatural amount of Bowling for Soup. They're one of my favourite bands and I have no idea why I love them as much as I do.

Isbjørn 02-25-2014 07:36 AM

I really like Coldplay, though I don't know whether or not it's irrational.

Mondo Bungle 02-25-2014 07:50 AM

I couldn't tell you why I like half the music that I do

Isbjørn 02-25-2014 07:57 AM

Explaining takes all the fun from it, anyway.

Black Francis 02-25-2014 02:26 PM

No specific artist come to mind but i love 50's doo-wop for some reason which is the total opposite of the noisy bands i usually like

Necromancer 02-25-2014 03:29 PM

I've always liked the band Bush. I don't listen to them much these days, but I did back in the 90s when they were popular.

Tristesse 02-25-2014 03:43 PM

Katy Perry, mainly because of that bit in the California Gurls video where she shoots cream out of her tits.

Engine 02-25-2014 04:40 PM

I have an irrational love of Dokken because of A Nightmare on Elm Street 3

Rjinn 02-25-2014 06:22 PM

They don't go against my music taste but I'll say Tool. Don't know why I like them so much, it was really overboard for 2 years... I've kind of passed it now though.

You need to work out your Oedipus complex dude.

Psychedub Dude 02-25-2014 06:36 PM

The Weeknd fits into this since its definitely not familar territory for my taste. I only listen to a few songs from him though.

14232949 02-25-2014 07:24 PM

at the time of reading my way through this thread, I'm listening to Cher's 'Believe'

I have developed this overwhelming love for tacky pop music from the turn of the century. It's not even ironic listening anymore, I genuinely know all the words to songs from Backstreet Boys, Nsync, Martine McCutcheon, Atomic Kitten and a whole host of other pop acts that hold zero musical credibility.

I blame living with two gay people.

James 02-26-2014 03:48 AM

Cheesy female singer songwriters do it for me. For every respectable one like Fiona Apple and Tori Amos there's Alanis Morissette, Sara Bareilles, and Natasha Bedingfield.

Dylstew 02-26-2014 11:48 AM

Ah, I know one that goes against my general taste in music.
Rage against the machine. I get sick of them after a few songs, but I still like them. One of my guilty pleasures I guess.

WWWP 02-26-2014 12:01 PM

Kanye West and Tyler the Creator. On paper I should despise them both but I do noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooot.

bob. 02-26-2014 12:09 PM

i probably have a little unhealthy obsession with the music of both Berlin and The Bangles....i make time stop anytime i hear No More Words and or Hazy Shade of Winter

Black Francis 02-27-2014 08:31 AM

I've only recently started liking Hewey Duey and the Ludes. When they first hit in the 80's, I hated em. Probably because of the metal head culture I was immersed in. For what they did and at the time they did it, this **** aint too bad.

They look similar. Katy is a lot hotter though.

Black Francis 02-27-2014 11:06 AM

Here is a very foreign one i luv Emmanuel he was a latin singer from the 80's and 90's he was very cheesy and his fashion sense was even cheesier

i prefer Zoey but i would gladly do them both :)

Dylstew 02-27-2014 11:21 AM

I think zoey looks cuter.

YorkeDaddy 02-27-2014 12:05 PM

I would happily take either of Zooey/Katy haha

Why not both? In the magical world of your imagination, you can have any combination of women you want.

I often dream of a me/Judi Dench/Britney Spears threesome. Their two clashing personalities would be incredible.

One of those groups does a cover of "Hazy Shade of Winter"? Or am I misreading your post?

You might want to check this out for some Lewis history. DE playing a Huey Lewis song with the writer on the Harp. This seriously is far better than what The News did to it.

The only thing about the video is that the creator decided to put in his photos of his fish catch somewhere in the middle of the clip, but seriously if you have not heard the song at least hear it - this is the only You Tube I have seen of it, though.

misspoptart 02-28-2014 01:53 AM

I think a lot of what I love is a bit irrational.

I mean, I consider myself to be pretty weird and have always been a huge nerd. I'm no hipster but most of my interests are far from mainstream.

Regardless, I love pretty much every pop song ever, while everyone around me tends to hate them.

I also love Eurovision music. That is pretty irrational, too. I love it for its stupidity and lack of creativity. I love it for the fact that some take it too seriously and some think it's a joke. I love it for the drama it creates and the pure hatred most people express for it. I just love Eurovision.

My inmagination is not good enough, it often also doesn't really listen to me all that well :c.

Prepare to have your mind blown.

Monplaisir 02-28-2014 07:41 AM

For an unknown reason, I like listening Bootilicious of Destiny's Child between two tracks of punk hardcore...
And I really really love the Shaggs.

PS: Zoey Deschanel FTW !

I don't know... up-tempo 4 bar blues doesn't necessarily make it better imo. I think the News' version lends itself better to the feel what the song is supposed to be about. Slow drudgery, with a doowop twist makes more sense to me, but thanks for that. Never heard it before.

What is rational music love?

Good point. /thread

Goofle 02-28-2014 11:32 AM

Not really. I can rationally explain much of the music I enjoy.

Urban Hat€monger ? 02-28-2014 11:41 AM

I find myself hating songs that are overplayed and then years later discovering that I actually miss hearing them.
I know that this is definitely true of these two songs.
