Question Is MB a Tiger Beat music forum?

I've heard the comment made before that Music Banter is the 'Tiger Beat' of all music forums. I often wonder if that might be true when looking over some of the threads posted in the rock
and metal forum. You almost never hear the discussion concerning the bands/artist like the Steve Miller Band, Bob Seger, Supertramp, Styx, etc.
I mean the list of bands and artists just goes on and on I could name that are never discussed here at music banter. Maybe a lot of the mainstream attention here is because most of the posters are newbies that only stay for a short period of time while making only a few posts and then leaving.

There are some really interesting things going on here at MB in the journal section for example by some of our members here, but the music discussion forums themselves seem to be lacking versatility in discussion most of the time.

mate, what are you talking about?
If you like AOR Rock, talk about it.
I've never met such a concentration of people who loved obscure and underground music as I have on Music Banter, so to say we're a mainstream forum is ridiculous.

Even if we are, who cares? The whole premise of this site is that it allows us to talk about whatever music we want.

I think Rock and Metal is a bad example because it's really not at the forefront of discussion on here. General, Punk, Indie, and Hip-Hop all regularly feature artists that could never be called mainstream! Likewise extracurricular MBing also leads to new discoveries - like plug dj. or one of the album clubs!

So more discussion of pop rock would make MB less mainstream?

No I don't mean that at all, I guess maybe it's because I mostly stay in the rock and metal, general music, pop music and the soul and R&B forums as so pointed out.

The question is not meant to insult anyones personal points of interest here at MB.

I personally don't listen to much obscure or underground music.

Tiger Beat maybe...if you throw in NME, Rolling Stone and Vibe too. tbh I've seen music forums worse than this.

I always thought there was a back-lash of bands that were successful on AOR or Classic Rock radio platform. I don't know why they those 70s bands get edge out as being passé but not 70s' Heavy Metal and Punk bands from the same era. At least I got that feeling that they're not cool to talk about when I first joined and posted few of those bands like Eric Clapton, SRV, CCR and The Doors. I thought 'gee whiz if I couldn't talk about those bands without negative feedback then I had absolutely have no chance to talk about Les Paul, the Church or Pram.' So I never did. I accidentally found a of Montreal fan, so I thought 'wow my music taste can't be that horribly intolerable to other people.' Even though it was only one or people.

Though it seems that Velvet Underground, John Cale, JJ Cale, Leonard Cohen, The Beatles, Bob Dylan, the Pixie, Nirvana, Metallica and Madonna get mentioned plenty. I always thought MusicBanter should change the name to The Fans of Velvet Underground, John Cale, JJ Cale, Leonard Cohen, The Beatles, Bob Dylan, the Pixie, Nirvana, Metallica and Madonna Forum.

Yea I agree. I think the people here only seem interested in talking about rock or some obscure band not that that is a bad thing. There does not seem to be much interest in other areas besides that. The other forums barely have any activity.

There are other parts of this forum?

I dissagree, I have seen other people post in soul, country, and jazz... There is a large group of us indie and obscure nerds here..But I'll have you know, I once entered a battle of wits with an unarmed man in the country thread..... ;-)
