This is true! True True I say...But the point of the place is to be able to talk about whatever kinda music turns your crank... I love soul and funk, but you won't find me on the boards, as much because I try to not speak about music unless I have the cold hard facts to back it up, and or the strong opinion...I am not saying I'm not well versed, but I don't feel comfortable flexing my soul muscles...So you are more likely to find me in indie and obscure areas because that is my one of my strengths... But I have picked up more music off this board, then I could alone, (and I am a psycho for music...) So back to the original post, do I do not feel that this forum is like a TigerBeat magazine...

I am a newbie here but MB already helped me discovered artists I didn't know or simply get infos and opinions about other I already knew. I don't know what Tiger Beat is (I'm not from the US) but if MB is the Tiger Beat of the music forum, I want some Tiger Beat.

Well I think you should start flexing your soul muscles because you should show them off! You never know there might be something that you know that others might not now know and it also gives you an opportunity to learn more about a genre. I love soul but there is still so much to learn! Everyone does not know every single thing about a genre and that is okay. Last edited by Soulflower; 02-24-2014 at 08:46 AM. |

I just think it's the case that some bands just lose their relevancy and some don't.
In the mid to late 60s The Beatles & The Rolling Stones were outsold by The Dave Clarke Five, does anybody talk about them here? I remember the 80s, It wasn't The Smiths or Pixies that were selling huge amounts of records then. It was stadium rock bands like Big Country, Simple Minds, INXS in the UK and hair metal in the U.S. How many of those bands do you see get talked about here? Same for the 90s, It wasn't Neutral Milk Hotel that got any attention, in fact I didn't even see a magazine article about them until 2002. It was bands like Ocean Colour Scene, Cast & Dodgy in the UK and bands like Live, Uncle Kracker, Goo Goo Dolls & Bush selling vast amounts in the U.S. Basically what it comes down to is the popularity of bands from the past depends on current trends, some stay current, some become relevant even if they may have sold no records at the time and some just drop off the face of the earth no matter how many millions they may have sold in their heyday.
