Alice in Chains- Something about this name just screams 'generic mopey grunge'. For the life of me I can't remember what the hell this band sounds like either.
The Sound of Animals Fighting- "Hey I know, let's come up with a name that's simultaneously obnoxious, pretentious, and misleading!" Freaking great band though. Metallica- Seriously? THIS was the best you guys could come up with? It sounds like a suggestion that a directionally misguided teenager would come up with when he and his kiddy band who take themselves too seriously sit around in their parent's garage coming up with 'hardcore' names for the band. Usually when said misguided teenager suggests such a name, his bandmates slap him upside the head and tell him to shut the **** up. But somehow, this natural anti-embarassment barrier failed and the name stuck. Muse- See above. My Bloody Valentine- See above. WHY?- WHY? Yes- No.

A Popular History of Signs And Also the Trees Any Trouble Avant Gardner Colours Out of Time Dancing Did Desperate Bicycles I'm So Hollow It's Immaterial Laughing Apple (One of the first Creation Records bands) Los Microwaves New Math Plain Characters Some Chicken One on Factory Records who did get some acclaim... Crispy Ambiance ...and two who wound up on major labels Haysi Fantayzee Kajagoogoo (I know this has been mentioned a couple of times, but it was quite a bad name) Last edited by Screen13; 07-04-2010 at 01:49 PM. |

gunnels, you beat me to My Bloody Valentine! It just doesn't reflect their music at all, which is the most important factor to me (and why Limp Bizkit is a fitting name haha)...

I think 90% of the names people have come up with here are fine band names.
Yes, The The, The Band etc are terrible band names as theres no thought gone into them at all. "Portugal. The Man" is probably the most pretentious band name i have ever heard. But Queens of the Stone Age? Alice in Chains? Muse? King Diamond? Rainbow? Come on, these and so many others in this thread are not bad names for a band or at least im struggling to see why they come to mind so easily above others that are far worse. |

A band who think has a terrible name, even though I like them a lot, is Skinny Puppy. |
