Thanks, Plankton I liked that one. Only on the first track and I think it's a great take on the album. Do they have any other stuff worth checking out?

Well im guessing youd like more of the atmospheric stuff rather than thrash so here goes:

Drudkh

I would consider this top 5 metal albums(Autumn Aurora) for sure. It really is a beautiful work. Ambient-driven black metal i suppose

An Autumn for Crippled Children

very syrup-y shoegaze stuff similar to Alcest.

Agalloch

One of the "coldest" albums (The Mantle) ever imo. Really does a great job of using folk and acoustic sounds as well as black metal techniques (for lack of a better term).

I would say all three of those bands arent "loud" bands but rather utilize the metal aspect to create a certain atmosphere. More beauty than ugly i guess.

i have an idea for a sort of variant on what's happening here. See what you think, as the thread itself is kind of dying...

Someone (anyone) post ONE video, and one only, on ANY genre, subgenre or about any artiste they want. ANYONE who wants to comment on the thread MUST listen to the song and give an HONEST opinion on it. While that's going on anyone else can post another video, but only (initially) one per member and ideally try to select as different artistes as you can. I'm guilty as anyone of skipping videos here but this would sort of force everyone to listen to it and then comment. I mean, what's it gonna take out of our lives? Five minutes? Ten? Twenty if it's one of my prog epics? ;)

C'mon! Give it a try! Could almost be seen as an extension of Rez's sadly-missed Mixtape of the week...

Okay then I'll start, and here is a weird one to get us going. Honest comments only please. If you hate it, say so but also say why, same if you like it. Did it surprise you? Bore you? Annoy you? Make you want to find out where I live and come calling with a ten-gauge? Let everyone know!

wow.....seriously i was expecting they typical kind of satire that Will pumps out through his music....and it seemed to start that way....but really took a major u-turn

kind of depressing....but in a good way (if thats possible) the music was very fitting for the ultimate mood created by the song....i feel like i should know who is singing the chorus but i just can't place the name....either way it really works

turned out to be a really nice track

It's Ben Folds and Aimee Mann. Folds wrote most of the stuff with Shatner. Yeah it's a really interesting album. If you haven't already heard his version of "Common people" you need to. Some of the tracks are a bit meh but there are some really good ones on it, and the whole thing was a surprise package to me, so much so that when I saw he had a new one --- and it's a prog album apparently --- I leaped on it.

Thanks for being the first to comment, bob. Hope others like it too. Or hate it. But listen to it.

This was some of the stuff that got me into Metal personally, some of these are really obvious but I'm a noob myself anyway:

Urban Hat€monger ? 01-24-2014 11:24 AM

You should have posted the song Shatner did with Henry Rollins & Adrian Belew.

Yeah I know. It's a great song but as bob says I already hit it onto one of Rezz's Mixtapes so wanted to do something else off the album. By the way bob if you want a PM just shout.

bob. 01-24-2014 06:04 PM

Okay kids, show me your crazy dubstep everyone's been talking about. Inaccessible and abrasive music is fine by my terms, but I've not heard any dubstep I really like (then again this was only at parties and such).

Briks (or anyone else) I forgot I did this compilation of some of Iron Maiden's best material some time ago. Might be worth listening to?

Ok, so I have been really trying to except the metal genre, as a whole... Some of it is really beautiful and I am actually quite ashamed to say that it has taken me this long to accept it as being as beautiful as it is.... I really like most of the stuff that has been thrown my way over the last couple weeks thanks guys  My opinion still stays the same that it primarily speaks to dudes. Not saying that there aren't some hardcore ladies out there that enjoy it just as much as the dudes, but it seems to speak directly to the male angst...

Trollheart 02-05-2014 09:46 AM

You should try some symphonic, female-fronted metal...

RoxyRollah 02-06-2014 07:04 AM

^those are women?

Trollheart 02-06-2014 02:49 PM

Female vocalists, yes.

Why would you not click on the link? You were talking about metal being for guys, I gave you instances of female-fronted (not female-only) bands, so to hear them you need to .... oh what's the word? Oh yeah: click! ;)
