I'm Angry
Hello MusicBanter members! A couple weeks ago I made an account and strived to be one of you. I thought this was a cool sight and wanted to make my own account to put in my own thoughts on music. So I did, I named my account Waffle Flames which is also the name of my band (Not advertisement this time, Mods...) After posting on 1 or 2 threads I thought I'd introduce myself to your community by posting about my band, I wasn't trying to spam or whatever I just thought it'd be a cool way to introduce myself and get some opinions on our stuff. The next day I try to log in only to see that MusicBanter has PERMANENTLY BANNED that account because of that one thread. A music website of all places doesn't let you post about your music! I can understand doing so if someone made an account purely for spamming intentions and did nothing but that but I was not one of those people! I posted in several other forums on the same day that I posted the thread about my band! And how was I supposed to know that I couldn't post about my band on a MUSIC forum? I bet any mods response to that would be "It's in the terms when you register" And just in case anyone was thinking that I'll just go ahead and tell you that NO ONE IN THE HISTORY OF INTERNET KIND has ever read the terms and conditions before signing up. It's 2 or more freaking pages long most of the time. And even if it is in the terms shouldn't I at least get a warning? Couldn't you at least send me a message telling me not to do it again and delete the thread? Was it really necessary to permanently delete my account? I think it's stupid, and if the mods delete this thread too then I'll explode all over this site. I just want to be able to participate on this site like everyone else. Being oblivious to one thing shouldn't qualify a permanent ban. If it's possible I'd like my old account to be unbanned and then I'll delete this one. Thanks.

God! "How am I supposed to know..."? Read the effing rules man! Whether you're spamming or not, NO personal self-promotion of any kind (for gain or otherwise) is allowed here UNTIL you have established yourself. Posting on 1 or 2 threads is NOT establishing yourself. You need to be here a minimum of three months before you can start posting your music.
"How come a music discussion forum doesn't allow posting of music"? Precisely because of that: we're a music DISCUSSION forum, NOT a music SHARING or PROMOTION forum. We talk about music, we don't provide a free platform for every new aspiring band to show us how great they are. If we did that, we'd have nothing but threads along the lines of "Check out my band it's cool". most of which would not be cool. If you were unclear about the rules, you should have asked before posting. They're there for a reason. If you want to join the community, get established and later (much later) introduce us to your music fine, but not after a few posts or a few days/weeks. We've mods here --- mods, who have been here years --- who play/compose music but don't post it here. Sure nobody reads t&c (even AFTER that South Park episode showed us all how we absolutely should!) but we have a threads showing the RULES, which you SHOULD have read. Alternatively you could just have asked. I agree perma-ban is a little harsh, but is it possible you made other accounts prior to that? Maybe you just caught a mod on a bad day. Either way, if you're unsure if something is ok you should really ask. Did the lack of other "hey look at my band" posts not tip you off? We do in fact have a Forum Members Showcase where I believe members can post their music but as I don't play I am unfamiliar with the terms for posting there. Nonetheless, my advice would be to refrain from posting any music until you are here longer than a few months: this is standard operating procedure here. If you can't wait that long then you're probably here for the wrong reasons. What threads did you post in, as a matter of interest? It is very friendly here, but the mods take pretty much a zero tolerance view on advertising, and whether you like it or not, posting your music when you're unknown here is seen as advertising and promotion. (This has been a production of Unnecessarily Long Winded Posts, a division of Trollheart Industries LLC. This message is not endorsed or authorised by any mods).

It is also against the rules to create another account to skirt your previous ban

As far as @trollface's comment goes I have to say this: I WAS NEW. I didn't even look through all the forums and thus hadn't even gotten a chance to see that there WAS a rules forum yet. And I don't think you can see my original post but if you could it would show me asking if there was a forum where I can post about my music because I wasn't sure. I WAS asking if I could post and where but the only answer I got was the permaban. As far as where I posted I left a comment about the Death Grips in a Psychadelic Hip Hop thread and that's all I remember posting in but I looked around some more forums in the rock section and said a thing or two. I don't really remember where though, Animal Collective rings a bell though.... |

This is a community of people who listen to and talk about music. Everything under the sun is open for discussion, and although there are a few who play instruments, are in bands, or have some other role in the music business, they are not here to push their product. If the people that run this place were to let those floodgates open, we'd get nothing but a bunch of self absorbed maniacal lunkheads that are only here to say "Look at me! Look at me!". I'm not saying you'd be one of them, but then again I don't know anything about you. Which underlines this whole post.
