Signed Deftones Guitar
Okay, first time posting here but I would love some opinions.
I have a friend that wants to sell her guitar she got when she went backstage with the deftones before Chi's accident. All the band members signed the guitar - a fender squire (nothing special). She is asking me $175 for it. I know the worth of the guitar itself but I can't put a price on the signatures. They are authentic but there is no proof. I know I can get them authenticated. What do you guys think, good/bad deal? I'm sitting on the fence here. |

Signed items are not worth much more than the items they're signed on, unless the person who signed it is either dead or an A list celebrity. Even then you'll still have to wait a while to see if that person just becomes forgotten or they have a lasting legacy.
It's up to you to weigh this up and decide if it's worth gambling on if you're doing it purely for monetary gain, nobody can tell you.

I'm doing it for both. I am a fan of the deftones, followed chi through this entire accident and recovery process.
Just thinking of in the future, if I ever possibly sell this guitar...$175...plus the price of authenticating it. It's tempting on both levels. |

Unless there's a revival in that sort of music in the future the price is more likely to go down rather than up as they become less & less culturally relevant.

Exactly Exoskeletal!!! Either way I thought hey, I love the piece. I know the guitar itself isn't anything special. But I'm starting to collect signed pieces. I have a signed Janus guitar and A7X one. I think Deftones would be a great addition.
The guitar is itself it worth nothing I know, so I just wanted some insight on the $175 price tag she put on that. And man, I think the Deftones are legends in my mind and which Chi passing away...having this piece would be very cool. Funds are tight but oh so tempting... |
