Default Nirvana, the Replacements, N.W.A., Chic, Peter Gabriel Nominated for Rock and Roll Ha

From Pitchfork:
Quote:
The 2014 class of nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame have been announced via Rolling Stone, and at long last, Nirvana are eligible for the honor. They've been longlisted along with the Replacements, N.W.A., Chic, Peter Gabriel, Kiss, LL Cool J, the Zombies, Cat Stevens, Hall and Oates, Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Deep Purple, Link Wray, the Meters, Linda Ronstadt, and Yes.
In order to be eligible for induction, artists need to have released their first single or album 25 years ago. Nirvana are the only artist in the group of nominees that are in their first year of eligibility—their cover of Shocking Blue's "Love Buzz" came out in 1988.
It's going to get interesting over the next few years as many of the grunge, Brit rock and electronica bands meet the 25 year eligibility requirement for induction.

I was shocked that Linda Ronstandt was never nominated as she was the best selling female vocalist of the 70s.

I'm personally hoping that two of the underdog bands, the Replacements and the Paul Butterfield Blues Band will finally be acknowledged by the R&R Hall of Fame.

I always think it's weird that they induct bands that aren't rock into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Yeah, they should probably change the name to "The Popular Music Hall of Fame" at this point.
And I think it's ridiculous that Link Wray isn't already in the RNRHOF, considering his enormous influence on rock music since the beginning.
He should have been one of the first people inducted during the first ceremony (IMO.)

I have mixed feelings about rappers being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Hip hop really doesn't have anything to do with rock music. I agree with Psy-Fi that it should really be called the Popular Music Hall of Fame.

I also agree that Link Wray should have been inducted a long time ago but most people don't know his influence on rock and roll. It didn't help that Link moved to Denmark and had a fairly erratic recording career for the last 30 years of his life.

I'm surprised Kiss haven't gotten in earlier. They're one of the most well known hard rock bands down the years, not to mention all the awards they've won and the amount of album releases. I know a big part of the band are about the light shows, face-painting and band shirts... but they fit the criteria of rock' n' roll hall of fame and how they go about inducting bands, or what one might say.

My guess is they're just trying to stay current in a misguided notion that anyone will care.

Personally I wouldn't vote for any band that build it's musical reputation on the quality of their face painting. When Kiss first came out they primarily appealed to 12-15 year kids as a teeny-bopper version of glam rock bands like the New York Dolls and Alice Cooper. From my perspective, Kiss has always been a bit of a novelty band joke by four mediocre musicians to make a bundle of money.

At first I thought the hall was dedicated to artists who aided in the "progression of rock music". You don't necessarily have to be a rock musician or artist to do that. There are alot of non rock artists who have made a significant impact on rock in roll. However, over the years the RHOF have nominated and inducted artists who havent even done that. So with keeping that in mind, I think they should just change the title of the hall to "Popular music hall" etc

I personally dont take it as seriously anymore because there are alot of artists who have been snubbed that really deserve to be in it. There are artists who have been inducted before more deserving artists. It took Donna Summer's passing for them to finally induct her! She was nominated at least 5 times until her ultimate passing where they finally inducted her. Whitney Houston should have been inducted. WAR should have been inducted. Chic should have been inducted. The Hall snubs alot of African American legendary artists. They inducted Beastie Boys before WAR two years ago, that was insulting. I also dont like the way artists are nominated. Its based off the opinion of one man (the person who created the hall) if he doesn't like you, your not getting in.

I think LL and NWA deserve to be in it. However, I dont think they should get in before alot of other artists who have been snubbed that should already be in it. For crying out loud, they havent even inducted The Carpenters, thats bs...

Nirvana deserves it too....but technically there are artists that should be inducted before them but more than likely they will get inducted this year.

Chic should ALREADY be in it... why are they not in it?
