Music that actually takes you places.
I love musicians like Hendrix, Clapton etc. but I can never really say that I 'experienced' them. I can't describe what I'm trying to say but songs like 'Maggot Brain' by Funkadelic and 'Hey You' by Pink Floyd actually takes me places, like they make me feel lots of emotions and make me feel like I'm 'in' the music.
Recently I started to listen to ambient music and got the album "Ambient 1: Music for Airports' by Brian Eno and I love it. I've never really heard an album like it, it actually makes me think and makes me imagine myself in space, beaches, oceans etc. I've been listening to it all day and that's why musicians like Santana, 2pac, Mozart, are starting to sound a bit 'hollow' to me- they are great musicians and I enjoy their music but they never make me feel the surges of emotions like Brian Eno, Maggot Brain etc. Could I explain myself properly? What music has the same effect on you? |

Roxy Music's "Avalon" album, as a whole, is like a completely different dimension to me.
Here's a live recording from '82 of "While My Heart is Still Beating". Soothing/groovy stuff.
