i have no idea who Robin thicke is but what's so bad about sampling?
sometimes sampling leads ppl to find the original artist i remember eminem sampled 'Dream on' by aerosmith and that's how i discovered Dream on thnx to fricking eminem >_> I admit, most times they sample a popular artist is to make a popular radio friendly song cause it's a tune ppl know already so they tweak a hit to make another hit and most times it works too

but is he actually involved personally in the law suit? this seems like the type of situation that the record labels work out among themselves.. But if we are talking about "Doing the right thing" yea, i think he should pay up.

Here is a news article: The Social Climber: Robin Thicke vs. Marvin Gaye's Battle Over 'Blurred Lines' - ABC News
Here are the two songs... Got to give it up: Marvin Gaye~Got to give it up - YouTube Blurred Lines: Robin Thicke - Blurred Lines ft. T.I., Pharrell - YouTube They don't sound a damn thing alike to me. Sounds like Gaye's family is out there trying to mine new artists for money. They don't have a good track record "representing" him in the first place.

I like Robin Thicke but I think its a low move to sue the estate of Marvin Gaye and quite disrespectful.
The song was clearly inspired by "Got To Give It Up". The first time I heard "Blurred Lines" I instantly thought of Got To Give It Up. I dont think he got permission to use Michael Jacksons "woooaaaa" adlibs from Dont Stop Till You Get Enough because he is not credited in the credits of the song... Love Robin but this is low. The song was clearly inspired by Got To Give It Up and Im surprised the MJ Estate hasnt made a case |
