Yeah exactly. I think people get hung up on things like "Oh, did you hear that?!?!? The bass is almost note for note identical!"

"yeah but the rest of the song isn't, and it doesn't even sound the same."

"LISTEN TO THE BASS"

I think its disrespectful because Robin himself has said that it was inspired by Got to Give It Up and him and Pharell were listening to the song to find inspiration. I think his team made a wack arguement by implying that the Marvin Gaye estate is trying to take ownership of a "era". I think Marvin's family is just trying to make a case for that specific song alone. The song CLEARLY sounds like Got To Give It Up.

Pharrell has been known to plagiarise in the past. Michael Jackson is not even credited for that song and they sampled DSTYGE.

**** Marvin Gaye's family. This is the exact same thing Joe Santriani tried to do against Coldplay, bandwagon a song that is really popular, claim they stole it from you, you get publicity and record sales.

I honestly don't see any similarity between them tbh.

So the song was inspired by a Marvin gaye song.. so?

Now you gotta pay for inspiration?

it's not the same song it may have a similar vibe but it's not the same song!

Inspired doesn't mean shit really. So what!? that's not how suing over royalty to songs work just because another song was inspired by it. He doesn't owe them shit. Fuck his estate for trying to bully Robin Thicke in the first place.

I see similarities in these two songs but Robin Thicke is much more explixtive in this song than Marvin Gaye version. Trust me. In my opinion, this is Robin Thicke's not great song. I don't care for it much. I like Robin's older music.

Thicke is suing first because he does not want to pay a single dime to the Marvi Gaye family because they claim that Thicke stole Gaye's song. So to prevent to have pay the family of Gaye, he is suing them first.
