Mixtape # 2
Zippyshare.com - May 10.rar

1. Hatchet job --- Armand Hammer (Frownland)
2. Missiles --- The Sound (bob)
3. Faster gun --- The Wrens (James)
4. Shuriken --- Xoki and Hieronymous (Rostasi)
5. Man and a gun --- Judie Tzuke (Trollheart)
6. Brutha put the gun away --- 187 Fac (Music Phantom)
7. Weapons --- Mischief Brew (Mondo)
8. How heavy this axe --- The Sword (Carpe)

Next theme is cities or towns. Your song has to have either the name of a city or a town in it, or be about either, or both. Any country is acceptable.

Let everyone know what you think of the current selection once you've had a chance to listen, and again thanks to those who took part, who look like at this point becoming "The Mixtape Regulars"....

1. Hatchet job --- Armand Hammer (Frownland)

Oh, I love this. I'm gonna have to get a hold of this album. Love the guy's voice and the beat especially.

2. Missiles --- The Sound (bob)

Terrific track from one of the most underrated Post-Punk bands. Seriously one of the greats.

3. Faster gun --- The Wrens (James)

My track. One of my favourite songs on a 10/10 album.

4. Shuriken --- Xoki and Hieronymous (Rostasi)

I liked the sound of this initially but it doesn't really go anywhere. I kept on waiting on it to do something a bit more exciting but it never did. A slow burner in a bad way.

5. Man and a gun --- Judie Tzuke (Trollheart)

Not my thing. It's just so corny and it has no energy whatsoever.

6. Brutha put the gun away --- 187 Fac (Music Phantom)

I can dig this. It's just some awesome old style gangsta rap. It's not particularly aggressive or abrasive like some hip-hop with this sort of subject matter - it's just laid back and fun.

7. Weapons --- Mischief Brew (Mondo)

Haven't heard of these guys but they seem alright. Average folk-punky stuff. I quite like the vocals.

8. How heavy this axe --- The Sword (Carpe)

Great way to end the tape with this great riff, so different from all the other stuff here. The Sword are one of the best Stoner bands going right now.

1. Hatchet job- Armand Hammer (Frownland) Disorienting, dark as ****, grimy 10/10

2. Missiles - The Sound (bob) Cool, creative, improv feel 7/10

3. Faster gun- The Wrens (James) Exhausting, mall days, catchy 6/10

4. Shuriken- Xoki and Hieronymous (Rostasi) Loungey, ambient noise, unimaginative 4/10

5. Man and a gun- Judie Tzuke (Trollheart) Boring, simple, girl stuff 2/10

6. Brutha put the gun away- 187 Fac (Music Phantom) Storytell, chill, monotone 6/10

7. Weapons- Mischief Brew (Mondo) Acoustastic, angsty, drunk 8/10

8. How heavy this axe- The Sword (Carpe)
Riffsex, fuzzy, wish was longer 9/10

And something new I'd like to incorporate in my reviews for this thread, a judgement of song order. Really nice job with this one, Trollheart. 8/10 I like that the first and ending track were both bands with weapons in their names, playing songs about weapons.

Also regarding the new theme... specific city or town? Or like the generic reference to city/town, or an imagined city/town, is cool too?

Um, thanks but it was purely chance. I'm wayyy to busy to worry about the order and just put them in the order I either received them or that they ended up in the folder. I just wanted to make sure my song wasn't first.

I think a) it has to be a real city or town and b) you need the NAME of the city or town in the title or in the lyric. So "Jesus just left Chicago" is fine, as is, er, "Cockles and Missiles I mean Mussels", as it mentions "Dublin's fair city", while "My hometown" is not, nor is "Downtown train" or even "City lights".

Edit: actually, "Downtown train" is, as it mentions "full of all those Brooklyn girls". So once a city or town is mentioned you're okay.
