Almost eleven minutes of virtually nothing happening. Liked it though: very esoteric, sort of reminded me of morning at the docks or something.

2. Mondo Bungle: Neurosis - Souls At Zero

Not really my thing. Didn't like the vocals but the big guitars were ok. Couldn't take nine minutes of it though...

4. Frownland: Oidupaa Vladimir Oiun - A Thin Rowan Tree

Ah, Frownland you loon! Always something way out there! Sounds like an aged, Russian Tom Waits playing for drinks and tips in a Vladivostok bar, having woken up in an alley a week prior and trying to work his way back to the USA! Not a massive fan of the accordion but it's used well.

5. djchameleon: Scary Kids Scaring Kids - The World As We Know It

Good man DJ! Something different from you! Love this! Reminds me a little of Balance of Power. Or a slightly more restrained Lostprophets. Good stuff.

6. misspoptart: Goldfrapp - Hairy Trees

Oh my god that voice is sex incarnate! Love this Emily! Hate the title though

7. bob.: Ministry - Isle of Man (Version II)

Yeah.. not really into electro/industrial/whatever this is. Not for me.

8. Rez: Elder - Release

I liked this one a lot too, though I must admit I think the music was better than the vocal. Just lacking something, for me. Great song though. What genre is this Rez? Sounds proggy in ways...

Very cool and laidback, and love those brassy keys. Is this soul? Sure sounds like it. Not sure who submitted this. Again I prefer the music to the vocal though. Yeah yeah, picky picky...

I read it in I think Classic Rock, maybe, not sure. But it was definitely confirmed. If they were being serious. Went something like this:

Interviewer: What's this rumour that you set a cat on fire for one of your videos? (or maybe before one of your videos, can't remember)

Guy from Gorillaz (gimme a name and it'll prob ring a bell) : (Grinning) Yeah, seemed like a good idea at the time.

Sure, he may not have been serious but the rumour must have started somewhere and if not true then rather than take the opportunity to squash or refute it he was basically confirming it, not apologising and making like it was ok.

Damn Gorillaz! Sooner they're extinct the happier I'll be.

Note: Last line above is said in a light tone but I'm deadly serious. I sat open-mouthed after reading that and considered writing to the mag, but as Engine pointed out so succinctly about my journals, nobody cares.

Yeah the basic idea seems to be hardwired into every article and fansite about them --- "Used to set fire to cats". I can't get anything online that will actually confirm it happened, but it looks like something more than just a rumour from what I can see.

Well...I usually like ambient stuff, so I'm trying to like it. But it might be just a bit too abstract for me.

This is...upbeat somehow. Is this 80s? Is that what this is? Music from that strange decade in which weird stuff happened? A lot?

Wow, does this dude sound constipated. That's all I'm gonna say. No, wait. I LOVE ACCORDIONS!!

Flashback to 2003, when my internet friend from Staten Island almost committed suicide. This is the kind of stuff he listened to. So....yeah, not that really into it. EMO!

6. misspoptart: Goldfrapp - Hairy Trees
I used to listen to this driving home in the snow from school/work in Maine. A very relaxing track. I so miss driving a convertible. But yeah, echoing what bob (I think) said, this song is about one's environment more than the environment at large. I hope ya'll liked it. I find it so soothing and sexy.

7. bob.: Ministry - Isle of Man (Version II)
Oh yeah. Eerie. I love eerie. It reminds me of when someone puts a cell phone speaker up to their mouth and tries to alter the sound. The droning, I mean. Also, very industrial and strange. Although the song is about the deterioration of the environment, I had the sense that this song was from an environmentless place to begin with. If you get what I mean.

They may be an animated band but they're not alive on thier own. There are still people making that music and to my knowledge that's where the rumour comes from. If you can prove it's unfounded, fine, but until then I'm not interested.

1990 as it happens. His next-to-last album before his death, and one of his better ones from that latter period. I'm running an in-depth profile on this criminally-underrated songwriter in my journal if anyone's interested...
