2. Urban Hatemonger: Dueng Fever - Tiger Phone Card

at first it kind of reminded me of a pop version of Boss Hog...love her voice and the way they harmonize...also loved the kind of modern take on love...like taking ambien to sleep on the plane

3. LoathsomePete: Killing Joke - Inside the Termite Mound

great track by a great band....makes me think that i should really concentrated on their "middle" era

4. Chrysalis: Jesu - Farewell

although i would call myself a fan of Jesu....i've never heard this track....seems to be a step away from his normal stuff....absolutely beautiful

5. Trollheart: Ken Kiernan and Ger MacDonald - Crom Cruach

wow....nice pick man....very epic and very moving (on my second listen of the mix i was driving through central California and the sun was setting in the valley....this was playing and it was PUUURRRRFECT! )

6. Mondo Bungle: Beats Antique - Dope Crunk

at first i was thinking this was a Firewater song.....really enjoyed this as it kind of reminds me of what could be playing in a movie during an insane third world outdoor market scene....

7. Dr. Rez: Benjamin Francis Leftwich - Atlas Hands

not exactly my cup of tea at the moment....still a beautiful song....and fits perfect for the almost subconscious mood of this mix

8. djchameleon: Fort Minor - Petrified (Doors Remix)

love the dreamy doors sample in the beginning....also really like the MC's delivery....the beats are fun and very driving at the same time

9. zer0: Chameleons - Second Skin

great track....fits perfectly in the early 80s post punk scene

10. Blarobbarg: Psalters - Dumpster Divers

not something i think i would ever really look for....but fits perfectly within the mix

*had know idea this was a cover song* this made me wish i was in a bar with a complicated cocktail in my hand and an even more complicated femme fatale love interest....lounge noir?...loved it

12. rostasi: Stara Rzeka - Przebudzenie Boga Wschodu

i was looking forward to your first submission and must say you did not disappoint ....i don't know why but a minute or two into this i started thinking about Dr John C Lilly and his ideas of sound manipulation for the subconscious....looking into this band asap

13. Powerstars: Killers - Jenny Was a Friend of Mine

again....what a perfect follow up to the long kind of droney song....i've never really looked into Killers save the couple songs that got some notoriety....this was a just a great fun track

14. duga: Alpine Decline - Sleeping Gas

i listened to this i think 9 times in a row....and in all honesty if i had to pick a "winner" for submissions this would smoke the competition....already bout the album this track came from....and foresee it on my best of 2013 list

15. Frownland: Sonny Sharrock - Promises Kept

it's songs like this that remind me just how much i love good jazz music

16. The Batlord: Grand Belial's Key - Vultures of Misfortune

by far my only "what the fuck" moment on this mixtape....i felt the beginning going into what the song is was genius....the song made me think of giant clay monsters killing people

17. Astronomer: Twelve Foot Ninja - Ain't That A Bitch

what a great track....looking into this band

18. Vanilla: Flume - Insane

a great example of perfect electronic music.....but i think the live aspect of it took something....would like to hear the studio version

i love it when heroine addicts rant

in all honesty the only reason i chose this track is because it was one of two on my computer at the time....the other being the b-side....glad it was so well received

20. Arya Stark: Father John Misty - Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings

simple and somewhat haunting....great choice

21. Sequoioideae: Coffins - Decapitated Crawl

interesting contridiction to the track before.....death metal with a bit of chugga chugga hardcore....not bad at all

22. Plankton: Rush - Time Stand Still

not being a Rush fan....i don't dislike them just have always been "eh" with them.....still really enjoyed this and i'm thinking maybe i should really look into them a bit deeper

23. Burning Down: Let's Active - Horizon

i loved this track.....takes me back to days when Berlin was played on the radio often

I was really surprised by that album. In places it's not so great ("Ideal woman" and "Familiar love" are a bit iffy and "You'll have time" gets real old real fast) but then it can really surprise, with some totally heartfelt tunes, a bleak, haunting (as in, haunted by the past) spoken piece without music, and then of course there's that one. Anyone who liked that will probably like the title track and of course his version of "Common people" is to die for. But is it all that fun? Not completely, but I think it's definitely worth a listen. Approach with an open mind and a sense of humour....

Death is one of the most used topics in music. There's a whole branch of metal dedicated to it. If you can't find one song related to death you're not looking hard enough.

Some examples:
Motorhead --- Ace of spades
Dylan --- Death is not the end
Nick Cave --- Lay me low
Alan Parsons Project --- Oh life (There must be more)
Metallica --- Kill 'em all
Chris de Burgh --- The Traveller
Tony Christie --- I did what I did for Maria
BOC --- Don't fear the Reaper

countless rap/hip-hop songs talk about gun violence, don't they? And what about war songs? There are tons if you look for them.
