I am an *******

Frownland 11-14-2014 08:14 PM

So today was supposed to be the deadline and I only got one entry. I'm going to push it back another week.

Any thoughts on this tape? Whose track was the scariest?

Frownland 11-14-2014 09:28 PM

Here are my thoughts, in any case.

bob.: Heldentod - The Ghost Machine

Wow, great pick bob. Dark and haunting, this track is exactly what I was looking for when I thought up the theme. Very Whitehouse-esque.

bob.: God Bullies - Fear and Pain

This one was awesome, a very nice unhinged piece. The singer sounds like David Byrne on a wild one, I dig.

Mondo Bungle: Aghast - Totentanz

I liked this track, very eerie and the tribal drums were really cool.

Goofle: Lonesome Wyatt - Midsummer Fair

Quite a change! It definitely wasn't bad but not really my thing. I know that the lyrics are important in music like this and the lyrics were pretty good on this track but just didn't get me, sorry.

grindy: Angizia - Der Kirchof Spielt Zum Leichenschmaus

Residents influenced goofy Halloween polka? I like.

Plankton: Cypress Hill - (Rock) Superstar

I smoked many-a-bowl to this album in high school. Still dig it.

Frownland: Sunn O))) - It Took the Night to Believe

My track, nice dark fun for the whole family to enjoy. You and your grandma can discuss the lyrics and how easy they are to understand around the dinner table instead of how much she hates Obama.

WhateverDude: The Wipers - When It's Over

Decent fun track. Like the Lonesome Wyatt song, not my thing but I'll admit to liking this one more. The guitars were similar to a climactic horror film soundtracks, which was pretty cool. As the song progressed it got a lot better, too. I bet they'd be good live.

Frownland 11-16-2014 11:11 AM

Two submissions so far for the weather theme, give me more!

Goofle 11-16-2014 11:19 AM

Weather theme? I'll send you one in a sec.

Frownland 11-18-2014 07:10 PM

Three days left mother****ers.

billyjerome 11-20-2014 10:26 PM

Still accepting submissions? I was hoping to get some Raining Men in.

Frownland 11-20-2014 10:28 PM

Submissions are open until noon PST tomorrow. You don't have to pm me anything I can pull the track from Youtube.

Frownland 11-22-2014 11:55 AM

Because of a technical error with one of the tracks I waited to upload it until it was ready, but here it is, THE WEATHER MIXTAPE.

billyjerome: Smokey Robinson - Quiet Storm
Mondo Bungle: Skagos - Anamnesis II: A Dry, Sterile Thunder, Without Rain
Trollheart: Tom Waits - Emotional Weather Report
Goofle: Ought - The Weather Song
Frownland: Phantom Orchard - The Snow Queen
bob.: Sol Invictus - In the Rain
bob.: Coil - The Snow (answers come in dreams II)
Frownland: John Zorn - And the Clouds Drift By (enigma twelve)
WhateverDude: Black Sabbath - Snowblind

DeadChannel 12-15-2014 07:35 PM

So, the theme is weather? When I I have until?

GuD 12-15-2014 09:28 PM

That theme was done already, ya missed out my man :(

This is a fun thread though. Someone wanna reboot? I'd volunteer to take on nominations/mix tape consolidation duties but don't have the patience/time.

DeadChannel 12-15-2014 09:41 PM

Aw man, I was just working on one.
Oh well. This would still be cool to reboot.

Trollheart 12-16-2014 05:30 AM

I tried to reboot this a while back, but got annoyed with the lack of response. Now Frownland is giving it a go but let's be honest people: has anyone (including me) even listened to the selection, never mind commented on it? I know it's near Xmas and we're all busy (well I know I am!) but if we can't support this then who is going to bother? I got as disillusioned with it as Rezz because, quite simply, nobody seemed to care. And with the response so far (though Frown can tell me I'm wrong if I am) there seems to be no change.

So if this is to survive, we all have to make an effort to both submit tracks and to comment on the completed list. Otherwise anyone taking it up will just suffer the same fate as the previous drivers of this thread, and say to hell with you all: if you can't be bothered then neither will I.

Frownland 12-16-2014 08:10 AM

^What he said. Lack of submissions and comments on the tapes were why I let it die again.

Trollheart 07-05-2015 05:58 AM

**** this: I'm going to give this one more try.

There will be no, repeat no theme. Just send your tracks on any genre in and have them in by say next Monday, that's July 13. If we get enough interest in this maybe we can keep it going, even though we've tried and failed about nine times.

Anyone who supplies tracks will get cookies and free beer.

Disclaimer: there are no cookies or free beer.

Since there are many new members here who may not know how this works, basically send in one track of your choice that you think people might enjoy. Try to have it properly titled and tagged. All received tracks will then be made into a playlist which everyone can listen to and review, and then we start the whole thing off again, if there's enough interest and participation.

Send all tracks via PM to me, and make sure they're in a downloadable format, no Spotify or Youtube.

Okay then, you have a week. GO!

Overcast 07-05-2015 06:25 AM

^ Entered my terrible thingymabob. Hope this picks up traction.

Trollheart 07-05-2015 09:48 AM

Thanks for that.
I'd like to make the following proposal, to ensure, hopefully, that this doesn't fall flat on its face after a few weeks. I know there may be some initial enthusiasm but that generally tends to melt away by the second or third week and we're back at square one.

So I would ask for a general list of members who believe they can contribute to this on an ongoing basis. I'm not asking for a lifetime commitment, but anyone who believes they can take part more or less each week if they could just let me know. In fact, I'll do another signup sheet. This will mean that anyone who hasn't submitted a track any particular week can be contacted by me to remind them. I don't wish to get heavy with this, but if the previous attempts have taught up anything it's that a bit of a push is definitely often necessary.

You needn't worry; a signup sheet does not mean you take a turn sorting out and collating the tracks. I'll do that each week. It's just a general indication of your interest and your determination to help this thread succeed. Again.

I'm not doing themes (at least, to start off with) as I believe they have been the downfall of previous incarnations of this thread: people tend to use the excuse "Oh I can't think of a song to fit the theme" and then don't contribute at all. So leaving it loose like this I think will hopefully give us a better chance of success. If it takes off, and people want themes, and can commit to them, then we'll see.

So for now, if
a) you can be relied upon to submit one track per week to the tape
b) you can agree to listen to the whole tape each week and
c) you agree to thrown down some general comments once you have listened to it, then please sign up below.

Thanks

I just realised I should clarify: this is NOT like Frownland's "members' own music" thing. You can submit your own music if you want, but you don't have to. Any genre, any album, any artiste, just ideally perhaps something a lot of us will not know. One track only though.

Sorry if that wasn't clear.

Overcast 07-05-2015 11:40 AM

.

Trollheart 07-07-2015 05:25 AM

It's been two days and I've had one enquiry. This is going as expected. Is nobody else interested then? Should I just shut up shop and forget about trying??

I think actually having a theme would make this whole thing a little more interesting, although widespread participation would obviously still be far from guaranteed.

Yeah, like I said, we tried that, several times, and it just gave people an excuse not to participate. If themes are desired we can do them, sure, but at the moment there's not enough interest even with or without themes, so I'm sort of thinking I may just drop it. I'll give it another few days but if I only have one or two people interested by the end of the week that'll be the end of that and this thread can officially be buried. I'm getting tired of trying to keep it alive, and I'm not the only one who has done so over the last few years. People just don't seem to care, so why should I?

Frownland 07-07-2015 03:42 PM

I can send in a track. You sure you don't want a theme? I like it better that way tbh.

Trollheart 07-07-2015 05:06 PM

I really don't mind. If you prefer a theme we can have one but I'd want to have a handful of people confirmed before I bother trying to resurrect this again. I need more interest, otherwise, as you know yourself, it just isn't worth all the hassle. I'm not doing this for three or four people.

Trollheart 07-10-2015 05:14 AM

http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/832243imdone.jpg

Two responses? TWO ****ing responses??? :banghead:

That's it: I'm done with this now. Nobody's interested anymore. I suggest the thread is un-stickied and allowed to die. This was my last attempt to resurrect it and it met with a wall of silence and disinterest and apathy, so I'm finished with it, and I can't see anyone else getting it going either. I've better things to waste my time on.
