Congrats to Charlemagne for being the only respondent thus far to get question 24 correct. It's a hard one but I wanted to see how many people actually believe he killed Mozart. There is not a shred of evidence that he did. The accusation is absurd since he was every bit as celebrated and well known in Vienna at that time as Mozart.

Everybody who answers question 27 gets it right which is encouraging but I should point out that Beethoven INSPIRED the romantic period but was NOT a romantic composer himself. I'm not happy with my wording on that one.

Also why would you give this so called "survey" to people on a music forum? People on a music forum aren't really a good indication of what the general listening public is listening to so whatever results you are looking for won't even begin to paint an accurate picture of the background people have in music today.

Judging from the responses thus far, it would appear that Bob Wills & His Texas Playboys are in danger of being forgotten. I started listening to Mr. Wills maybe a dozen or so years ago after I bought a CD of Emmett Miller. Mr. Miller was a blackface minstrel of the 20s who did a series of recordings that was one of the prime documents of country music even though Miller's stuff was jazz. The reason is that the country cats dug him and incorporated his vocal techniques. He did the earliest recorded version of "I Ain't Got Nobody" which Louis Prima reworked into "Just a Gigolo." Miller also did "Lovesick Blues" which Hank Williams Sr. loved so much, he made it his signature song and billed himself as the Lovesick Blues Boy. And Tommy Duncan was a country singer who auditioned for Bob Wills and both discovered their mutual love for Emmett Miller and worked with each other for many years. The band was home-based in Tulsa, OK. In fact, over 600 musicians were Texas Playboys at some point or other. Some of them were unbelievable musicians, just incredible. They went on to join other bands having learned how to perform from Wills and his influence crept into country music and jazz from every nook and cranny. he is one of the founders of Western swing along with Milton Brown.

Wills grew up in a white sharecropping family and picked cotton in the fields with the black children. After the workday was over, he'd run home and grab his fiddle (he came from a long line of fiddlers) and join in with the black dance numbers which gave him a great love of blues, rags and jazz. He once rode 50 miles on horseback just to see Bessie Smith perform. Wills was the first performer to bring drums to Opryland. This was in the late 40s. Up til then, drums were seen as an abomination among country purists. Real country don't have no drums. But Wills' sound required a drummer. He was told no drums. He told them that he wouldn't perform and they'd have give everyone back their money. They relented but said to keep the drummer out of sight. As soon as they left, Wills ordered his band to move the drums to the very front of the stage. When the curtain went up, the drummer was in full view up front and the management was furious and blacklisted him from Opry land for a couple of years but Red Foley invited him back and Wills again brought a drummer with him. Drums would not be used at Opryland again until the seventies! Remember the name--Bob Wills--the Father of Western Swing!
