It is a blatant logical fallacy to assume what is normal by personal experience.

You grew up knowing how many people out of the 7 billion on the planet?

What's with this continued leaping to the conclusion that one who listens to a song on repeat must be mentally non-normal in some way?

On another note, I did think of one case where I repeat a song and that is when I really want to hear it but keep spacing out or becoming distracted.

If the only person you've known who liked listening to the same song over and over was crazy, you'd probably suspect mental abnormality in others who do it. I mean, anyone who does that with more than just a few favorite songs and/or who listens to the same song, say, 7 times in a row. It reeks of obsessiveness and escapism.

What if my favourite song was only 85 seconds long and listening to it 7 times in a row only took less than 10 minutes.

Would that make me obsessive?

Or what if it is a very long track and they let it play in the background on repeat whilst doing other work?

Those are valid counterexamples. (Although I said I earlier I wasn't referring to background music.)

Well, it doesn't have to be 'background' per se. And whilst I'm all for headphones and giving it more attention, there are plenty of long tracks which you might want to listen to more than just once or twice, and speakers can be ideal for such instances.

Posting on this site reeks of obsessiveness and escapism. Seriously, since you really have no idea what other people think or what's going on in there heads why are you even bothering trying to make half-baked judgments?

You know, psychologically speaking, projection is a major indicator of many issues stemming from a lack of self-esteem (to include Narcissistic Personality Disorder).

What about your unnecessary obsession with people who repeat a track over and over? That you cannoy accept the fact that some people, who are mentally stable and not trying to escape anything, do this?

When did this become 1950's out-dated paychology? You want to pump us all full of Stelazine, Haldol and chlorpromazine? Lock us up and subject us to ECT and sensory deprivation?

You're the only obsessive nutter I see. I would consider YOU mentally unstable long before I would a catatonic patient who will fly into rage if you turn off the repeating 4 minute song she is listening to.

Armchair psychology aimed at insulting someone. Lovely the things this forum allows (and little wonder how sparse discussion is).

I've been hoping someone would actually state what is going on in his or head when putting a song on repeat. Based on how little of that is being shared, my suspicion of obsessiveness and escapism probably is mostly accurate. The sheer amount of music people here listen to, myself included, certainly suggests obsessiveness.

It isn't allowed and if I see anymore in this thread it will be dealt with.
