This isn't your forum. It's supposed to be for the general public (though probably more for profit than goodwill).

Anyway, I already know about the Canadian Content Law, and I instinctively recognized that "volume" makes the poll not a fair comparison. That's why I suggested narrowing the focus. Bonus mention: Barenaked Ladies.

Barenaked Ladies is canadian?

Oh man, I have to re-evaluate my love for some of their songs then.

Question

Has anyone mentioned Neil Young yet?

Born: Toronto, Ontario Canada.

He began performing in a group covering Shadows instrumentals in Canada in 1960, before moving to California in 1966.

Couple of people did, I think. He was born in Toronto because his father was a sportswriter for the Toronto Star, but he actually grew up in Winnipeg.

I think Canada does the supergroup thing pretty well. Arcade Fire, Broken Social Scene, New Pornographers, Godspeed are all acts I love.

Clearly Canada loses in the "supergroup" category. I can understand why America wouldn't welcome imports made up of little-known musicians.

I think the only major category where Canada-USA is a fair comparison is the pop, because the scene is steady and by definition "popular" in both countries; and for whatever reason the female solo artists have had much more success in the USA than the men have.

Canada is generally better and less manufactured to follow a certain sound.
