Those cats on Eurovision (not the old ones) just want to break into the American music scene anywayz. I mean, why else would Cascada had done the show? They've already failed once in America, guess they wanted another shot at it. Another reason why a Worldvision wouldn't work is that not only (as mentioned earlier) can I see USA being represented by Wayne Newton, I could also see Adam Lambert as our representative. Scary thought, Adam Lambert representing America in something like this.

As someone has pointed out, it's usually not the cream of the crop who compete in Eurovision. The whole thing has a certain cheesyness associated with it. It's generally not cool to be a participant on Eurovision, although I have to say its image seems to have improved quite a bit the last few years.
At least that's how people feel about it in Norway. Our contestants are often artists who have failed to break through using the normal channels or who used to be popular, but have failed to maintain their popularity. This year's artist representing Norway, Margaret Berger, was a contestant in norwegian Idol in 2004. She released her latest album in 2006 and has been fading from the public eye ever since. I think she's cute and talented and hope she manages a comeback, but her story in this day and age's Eurovision is rather typical, I think.

My guess that it's possible that the format of Eurovision complete filled with original songs would be a very bad fit for the way the US TV and Music performance rights are handled. I don't know the whole scoop on how things are done with TV and original music, but with too many rich egos and greedheads around, I can imagine that after a number of arguments, NBC decided just to take on another import, The Voice (Originally from Denmark if I'm correct) and be done with it. It's easier to just copy the Pop Idol/American Idol format and just do the covers.
