Europe has a different dynamic that other parts of the world so I don't see something be exactly analogous to an interstate or international contest. There is already American Idol which is a UK import really. And that is a franchise that has caught on in many different countries. If there was a song contest, and it was design just as a US version, it wouldn't be about different cultures per se but different music genres, and the songs would be in the styles of Country, Hip hop, Pop, Rock or Zydeco etc. There is still some local, regional differences that would make it interesting. If hasn't catch on in the 40 something years that Eurovision been around, I doubt if it will catch on now. The purpose of these programs is to launch the career of the contestants. I don't know if a record company would invest in in a songwriter/performer just from one song. Large record companies are a bit of a dinosaur and they don't operate like you think they should. But if hypothetically it did if they had something like a Countryvision or a Hiphopvision where amateur or semi-professional artist would compete within a genre that might have a fan base large enough that could warrant such a show.

NBC, back in 2006, got the rights to give the USA a version of Eurovision. I have yet to find out why 7yrs later, it still hasn't happened.

The whole point of eurovision is to point & laugh at all the small countries that have very little idea of modern pop culture rather than it being an actual serious music competition.
It's the original cheese filled car crash TV show. I don't think a TV show featuring all 50 states would do that. What would be more fun to watch? watching California or New York's entries or seeing the entry from Belize or Paraguay?

The only thing with the whole continent being involved is the United States would never win it because all the voting is so politically based.

It takes nearly 2 hours to do the votes for Eurovision, imagine how long it would take if the whole world was involved.
