Paul Mawhinney - Largest record collection
Just came across this today but thought some people here might enjoy watching this. Just realised it was filmed over 4 1/2 years ago.

He probably has more records now seeing the interview is four years ago....I think some institution should buy the collection and open up a museum where people could go and listen to the records on a daily basis.
|
I saw a more recent interview with him on VH1 Classic. He probably hasn't added any records in a while and for years has been trying to sell the collection, preferably for museum display. As of the episode, it was all boxed up.
|
Supposedly the problem is that 3/5 of the collection is extremely common(not to mention a ton of multiples), but he insists that it stay together and no museum wants to pay for(and pay to store) a bunch of common records. He does have some very rare stuff, but until he accepts that a lot of it is worthless (or he passes away) it's going to stay right where it is.

I would love to see an extended video with him talking and sharing some of the rare and more unusual stuff in his collection. |
