I like a large quantity of good quality music. There are artists I follow as long as they keep up a quality I like. But I'm not a completest of an artist's catalog nor do I feel the need to focus on any artists, genres or music from a certain era (unlike many people I know who can't get beyond a specific focus).
I like exploring all kinds of artists, genres and styles new & old and from all over the world. Since I like a wide variety of music, it's not difficult for me discovering artists I will enjoy. Even when I come across an artist or album I don't care for, it may just be that I'm not ready to enjoy them now but will sometime later. |

Quality everytime. Quality stands the test of time, and therefore outweights quantity on a purely listening basis alone, nevermind the heightened experience it also provides.

I don't agree that they're mutually exclusive. I have a large music collection that I listen to on and off, but am always looking for something new that speaks to me. When I collected CDs only (before downloadable music from the net became possible) I was restricted as I couldn't spend 15/20 Euro every week or even month, particularly on an album I might not like. When I was thus restricted I did find myself getting bored listening to the same albums, even if they were great. Fresh is always good, so as long as the quality is maintained I have no problem constantly expanding my library.

When I find an artist that moves me I tend to work through their catalogue and maybe explore their origins and side projects. (Kind of sucks when you realise nothing lived up to the promise of the first album). Once that's exhausted I consume a lot of music looking for my next obsession.

I really go for quantity, I suppose, as the question is phrased. With that said, I go for quantity to seek out more quality. I feel like the two go hand in hand.
If a person's only ever heard Rod Stewart, Ke$ha, and Hanson in their life, that's not quantity, but it's not necessarily quality either. The quality, in that instance (and in pretty much any other instance) is going to be subjective. If you go out there and really seek out new music, as much music as you can get your hands on, it's going to be a lot, and it's going to be overwhelming. You are, however, more wont to stumble across quality at this time than with a severely limited playlist. It's the law of averages. Which, ironically, is more of a theory.

In terms of this question...

But I don't think "quality or quantity?" is the correct title for this question.
