not all they were cracked up to be..?
what are some bands that got popular, but in reality, had more of an image, or a trademark than they did talent?
or vice versa. what were some bands that were really good, but never really caught on. my pick would be saosin. they were awsome, (by were i mean the original saosin. theyve changed a lot) but they never really got big until recently. anyone else have any thoughts on this?

Korn I think... Ill probably think of more later, but Korn are the first that spring to mind. They were shown to be these Gods among music, and I just cant see whats so special about them..

this is going to be a controversial choice. but really cant see the big thing musically with the ramones. definetly more of an image band to me.
other bands that were definetly more about image and iconic staus thm music were the sex pistols (except glen matlock- come on now, the clash , the fall and buzz****s were the only real musically talented british punk groups of the 70s/80s), happy mondays, slipknot (despite the fact i actually like quite a few of their songs), the darkness, most of this new wave of gothic- nu metal ****e..i'll think of more later |

Definetly agreed with The Sex Pistols, all image and less talent. Even God Save the Queen is more popular for its controversial lyrics than the music.
Limp Bizkit. Was all about the image and 'rollin' (or just waving your hands in the air looking like a prize twat). The Pogues, okay so they say Magowan is a gifted songwriter.. but would you really listen to them if they weren't Irish? Even then, a couple songs too many on St Patrick's day and you really do wanna drown yourself in your pint of guinness. The original Snow Patrol never really caught on, yet they just became huge which was weird. And my favourite indie rock n roll image band - Franz Ferdinand all met in Art School... there's a surprise. Wanna see my Franz Ferdinand badge?

No talent
Definitely nickelback. They are a garbage band that should be getting booed out of high school gymnasiums. How they got famous is a mystery to me.
Also any teenage pop boy band crap that get the 13 year old girls in a lather. Their not worth the cd's they're recorded on. |

But that's not true. They had talent AND they caught on. I mean I think "What A Waster", "Can't Stand Me Now", and "Up The Bracket" were all hits in the U.K. So I wouldn't say them. I mean sure...Doherty had an image, but it was just because he was an addict.... So I wouldn't classify them as talentless pop stars. I'd say.... Bands that had talent but never really caught on The Stone Roses Charlatan UK Television The Neon Boys Credence Clearwater Revisited haha The Germs Aztec Camera Bands that didn't have very much talent but caught on quickly Hawthorne Heights Franz Ferdinand The Killers Atreyu My Chemical Romance The Dead Milkmen The Sex Pistols The Ramones Maroon 5 98 Degrees There's probably way more.
