I'm a pianist (person who plays the piano) and an aspiring singer. But I have an issue... I can't seem to write anything other than love songs... I mean, I have no problem with love songs, it's just, I wish I could write something else, y'know? I feel kind of trapped doing love songs ._.

Thank you, I'm sure everyone here had absolutely no idea what who a pianist is.

I won't sugar coat it, you can't write songs straight out of your ass. You need an inspiration, that always helps. Something that occurred in your life that's extravagant, a news story, an event. That's really if you want to write the "deep stuff". That's lyrical wise anyways, because that's what seems to be classified as writing a song now a days. A tip is though, this is just me, but I don't enjoy to write the lyrics straight up. Get pass some hints or have someone try to discover a hidden meaning behind the song. Or, if you want to; You can follow wolverinewolfweiselpigeon's idea and just write a song about trees.

Fame, fortune, power, titties. People say these are the most crucial things in life, but you can have a pocket full o' gold and it doesn't mean sh*t if you don't have someone to share that gold with. Seems simple. Yet it's an important lesson to learn. Even lone wolves run in packs sometimes.

Speaking only out of instinct without much thought on the subject, I suggest listening to the versatility of different artist like Elton John, Billy Joel, Lionel Richie, and Chistopher Cross. Songs like "Honkey Cat", Ride like the Wind, Countless songs to choose from by Billy Joel.

Here is a classic. You just need some different inspiration.
