The Album Art World Cup
I'm going to post 64 or 128 album covers depending on the response this gets. Just vote for your favourite album cover out of the two albums shown until eventually only one remains. Feel free to PM me your 2 albums you want to see against each other. I'm going to start this off with two of my favourites.
Round 1 Heat 1 http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l9...-Delantera.jpg 1. Iggy & The Stooges - Raw Power Vs 2. David Bowie - Low http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l9...ow-400x400.jpg |
Raw Power. Miles better.
|
I wish Iggy Pop would keep his t-shirt on. Gotta go with Bowie. Better colour scheme, plus he suits make-up more.

Bowie

I like Raw Power better. It's pretty raw and powerful.

Iggy.
Good idea, btw. |
While it's not one of Bowie's best album covers, I prefer the covers of The Stooges and Fun House compared Raw Power. So, I give it to Bowie.
Raw Power - 3 Low - 3 |
My vote goes to Low. Like someone else said, the color scheme seems to work better. Or at least that's what stands out to me. Raw Power isn't bad but I'm not a big fan of the word font and the overall contrast makes Iggy looks a bit cut and pasted against the black background.
Raw Power: 3 Low: 5 |
Raw Power features a decent photo of Iggy, but the actual album cover as a whole isn't a very good or interesting composition. Low, on the other hand, is actually an overall good composition with decent typography and a good use of color. Nothing outstanding really, but better than Raw Power.
Raw Power: 3 Low: 6 |

I think Low is the only Bowie album cover that I actually like.
Iggy 3 Bowie 8 |
Iggy and The Stooges
For some reason, I don't like the typeset for Low. Love the rest of the cover, though. In the end, both covers were perfect for the albums, but the reason I gave the vote to Iggy was that it was a great visual to the loud and sleazy sounds that were delivered with every song. I know that some may have not liked the typeset, but I liked it as it gave that Late Night B-Horror Movie feeling. Now if the Bowie cover would have been Station to Station, however, I would have had a tougher time deciding, possibly giving the vote to Bowie for that cover's very interesting and ultra-cool design. But for now it's... DB - 8 Iggy - 4 |

Going with Bowie on this. His album cover is more artistic whereas Iggy's is just, well, him on stage.
Bowie - 10 Iggy 4 When do you make a decision as to what wins? |

Next heat courtesy of Electrophonic Tonic Round 1 Heat 2 http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l9...H/fstcover.jpg 3. Faust - Faust Vs 4. Can - Tago Mago http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l9...4470696048.jpg |
Faust, the Can one looks like a 5 year old's MS Paint job.

FAUST-1 I guess i like 5 year olds MS Paint. |
Can - 1
Faust - 2 |
Faust - 3
Can - 2 The Can cover is a mess. |
Faust - 3
Can - 3 The Faust cover looks like an amateur Photoshop cover. Can's cover is art. I don't love it, but it's much more interesting. |

I'm going to have to go with Faust because I have a thing for x-ray photos. Faust - 4 Can - 3 |
can - 4
faust - 4 i'm not overly fond of the colour on can's cover, but the faust one looks not only like it was done in 4 minutes, but the position of that hand is weird and aesthetically unappealing. |
The Faust album cover is pretty cool with the X-Ray, but I prefer Can's. Mostly because it reminds me of how much acid they were on at the time.
Can - 5 Faust - 4 |
Can - 5
Faust -5 |
I'm not a huge fan of either covers, but I like the Can one a bit better because something about the bright orange really stands out. I don't like the typeset on the Faust one and just the title with the hand seems plain and oddly positioned.
Can - 6 Faust -5 |
It's really back and forth! What puts Faust over the top for me is that the sleeve is actually on clear plastic and it looks awesome with the clear vinyl.

I've always loved the cover for Tago Mago, it sums up the contents of the album very nicely. Not too keen on the Faust cover.
Can - 7 Faust - 6 |
although i would much rather listen to the Faust album.....there is just something striking about the simplified madness depicted on the Can album
Can 8 Faust 6 |
I like both to an extent, but the minimalism and composition of the Faust cover gives it a slight edge for me.
Can - 8 Faust - 7 |
I always liked Tago Mago's cover, even if I never really cared for the album itself.
Can 9 Faust 7 |
Could use a few more submissions btw.
Cheers |
Can - 9
Faust - 8 |
What that other dude said about the Faust one looking like a bad MS Paint job. The pic would look cool on its own, but the font right next to it just looks ****ty.
Can - 10 Faust - 8 |

I think it's kind of funny that two album covers from the 70s are being described in terms of Photoshop and MS Paint.
