Hawkwind - 4
Ian Gillian Band - 9 I prefer the spaceship's design on IGB's though I wish they used a different color scheme instead of black and yellow

I think it's amazing that, for the first time, one album was running away with it and then suddenly the losing album started getting votes. It's almost as if all the fans of the Hawkwind cover were in the pub and when it closed out they came, voting like mad. Or like how Obama was doing badly and then California's votes came in. A real surge. Starting to turn into a proper battle now: Paddy Power will no longer payout on the Ian Gillan cover, whereas two days ago it seemed a sure bet.

lol. Nobody was holding their breath for California's votes in either election, it was given for Obama. California is so far from being a swing state that presidential candidates hardly even bother campaigning there.

I was gonna say....the election was already decided before the polls closed in California
California has more electoral votes than any other state inthe union......but they have never decided a national election....Rhode Island' s 2 votes are more worthwhile than all ofthe west coast |

I used think Geiger was super great when I was younger but I've really done a 180 on him over the years and have come to find most of his work pretty cheesy. The Debbie Harry cover is clearly the worst here but it's hard for me to choose one from the remaining three. I guess I'll go with Celtic Frost because the Jesus slingshot is kind of funny.

Is that thing on Celtic Frost using Jesus as a catapult? If so it gets my vote for sheer humour/blasphemy/creativity.
Ive also always loved Giger's work and think it works well with the ELP cover. I also think it bears a slight resemblance to IQ's "Dark matter"... So my vote goes thus: ELP 1 Debbie Harry 0 Danzig 0 Celtic Frost 2

Danzig could be good if there was more going on. Celtic frost wins even if jesus wasn't a slingshot. Nice contrast, and I can't help but getting sucked into that eye.

ELP for me this round! I grew up with the album, and it's the least obvious of all of the covers in this case. Also, it's very iconic. Hardly any of their other covers have that impact in my opinion.
EDIT: Celtic gets vote #2 here. It's an evil sense of humor, and as I'm voting on a Sunday, I have to do the right thing and vote for sacrilege. Danzig - WAY too obvious. Yeah, we get it. Been there, seen that, nothing new here although there was still a lot of work that went into it. The Teen Screen loved it, and I kind of like it now, but I've seen that imagery too many times for it to stand out. Debbie - I wonder if THAT was the career-kill of Blondie instead of their next album proper, The Hunter (Zzzzzzzzz). It was a moment of indulgence, but it came off trying too hard to look edgy and shocking. It wound up in some Worst Covers of 1981 lists (The Rock Yearbook was one of them from what I remember). ELP - 3 Debbie - 0 (and will possibly remain there unless...) Danzig - 0 Celtic Frost - 5 (The only close call in this match) Last edited by Screen13; 03-18-2013 at 12:46 PM. |
