He was good at what he did as is evident in the record sales but I do think he's overrated.
I think he's underrated...Sure he was popular but most people don't know anything before/after Thriller and Bad. His bizarre lifestyle overshadowed his musical and performing talents. When people mention Michael Jackson the first thing that comes to mind is all the child molestation scandals. :/

If you were to some way make a poll for everyone in the world to vote who they thought was the greatest musician ever I'd wager MJ would come out on top with the most votes.

He's widely regarded (in my opinion, wrongly) as one of the greatest musicians ever, so there's no way he's underrated. He has now achieved legendary status in death.

I know not much about Prince but what I have heard is more interesting than everything I've heard from MJ (Bad, Thriller, History, Dangerous and a few other bits.)

Not sure why you keep making out as though people have no idea about certain albums in very popular artists discography.

Was gonna say something very similar, it's Michael Jackson, if you listen to music it's almost nailed on that you're familiar with his music.

It's not that people don't know them, It's because people heard them and thought they were awful.
Jacksons popularity was on the decline long before any sexual allegations.

OK, if you don't think he's over-rated, well that's a taste issue and I won't argue it even if I COMPLETELY disagree with it, but I never ever thought anyone could use the term "under-rated" to speak of MJ. It's like saying Coca-Cola is under-rated.

Sure he's well known but his music isn't appreciated as much as it should be.

MJ's music often was lyrically dark. Such as "Who is It?" and (something he didn't write but chose to sing) "Human Nature." I guess I'll vote for Michael, because those songs move me more than anything Prince has done.

It all depends on what you are talking. If you are speaking of talent, clearly Prince is better than Michael Jackson. I mean for good sake, Prince can play guitar and do it so well. He has more talent than Michael.

But it when to star, Michael easily destroys Prince. I mean I live in Minnesota and I think more people are aware of Michael than Prince though Prince was born in Minnesota. I mean this is the truth.

I think Prince and Michael Jackson are two great talents but star wise, Michael Jackson wins too easily.

I don't specifically like either of them, but Prince wins for me. Michael Jackson's music was never that good to me, but I can remember liking a few of Prince's songs.
