Default Music While Driving

I think it's a pretty major facet of a lot of people's lives just what music goes in their cars. I'm one of those mix cd people since my cassette player is busted and i have no aux jack so iPod is not a possibility. Music definitely augments driving experiences nicely. What are some of your favorites?

For me, "Souvlaki Space Station" by Slowdive serves as awesome freeway music, while "Dixie Cannonball" by Jenks 'Tex' Carman does the job for getting me excited about a new drive. Animal Collective and Hunx and His Punx hold a special position next to Ronettes and Tammys for most sung along.

I'm currently driving a car with no aux jack, busted cassette player, and no CD player. Basically, I listen to the Diane Rehm Show on the way to work, and when I work over, I get a nice treat of World Cafe on the way home. Sometimes I get bored and will switch it over to pop station for some background noise, or to an oldies station for some singing along.

Most of my music listening happens when I'm at home, or when I'm on break and bust out my iPod.

When I've got the choice of music via CD or MP3 player, though, I'm a huge fan of Gogol Bordello's "Through the Roof 'N Underground" as one particular track that strikes my fancy when driving. Aside from that, it's just whatever mood I'm in at the time. It could be Radiohead and CocoRosie, or Phish and Jethro Tull, and then everything in between. It all depends on my mood.

When I'm at home on break, I always pack a few CDs for any time I drive anywhere - and I pick whichever ones fit my mood as I go.

I noticed that with energic music that I love I tend to drive a lot faster so I only put quiet songs:

Range Life/Carrot Rope by Pavement is ok
Just Like You Imagined by Nine Inch Nails is NOT

I usually always listen to music when I'm driving. I just make playlists on my iPod so I don't have to skip through songs while I'm driving. My car has a cassette deck so I just use one of those little adapters to plug into the iPod so I can listen through the stereo. The sound in my car is excellent.

It also has a CD player in the radio (probably one of the first cars to include that feature lol) so I always have a bunch of CDs ready to play as well.

Ive heard that car accidents are more frequent in those who listen to music while driving, as the music distracts the driver and makes them less focused on the road.
