Default Eurovision 2013 Thread

Well, national selections have begun, and with the concert just a mere 4 months and 3 days (!!!) away, we should start making fun of the songs as soon as possible!

I love Eurovision for what it is: a hilarious game that highlights all of the tension between and underlying arrogance of participating nations. As well as a reflection of the general level of creativity in each country. I also find some songs to be damn catchy.

So far, the following songs have been selected for Malmö 2013. What do ya'll think of them? I vote **** as usual, and actually I can't say a single one is worth my vote. Although I am extremely pissed off this year because Turkey will not be participating (my place of residence), which means I can't actually vote after all.

From Lithuania:

my rating: 2/10

From Ukraine:

UGH!!! 1/10

From Albania:

4/10, at least they sing in albanian!

From Belgium:

2/10, ****e. Kid can't sing in any language probably.

From Switzerland:

At LEAST this song is a little bit catchy. The video makes me feel embarrassed for Switzerland, but that is why I think these guys have a chance.

6/10

That's it for now.

Well, you know the old joke about Turkey! At least they won't be stuffed this year!

See my journal (in sig below) for many digs at previous Eurovisions, under the title "Eurovision Hell".

As for this year, as every other year, I'm going to completely ignore it.

You can't ignore it if it's gold! At what point should I tell you its worth it? Will cross-dressing Israelis peak your interest (if they occur)?

Not really, no. If there's anything of interest I'll look at it (usually on YT or the Eurovision's own site) after the contest, but no way I'm spending hours sitting through that tosh, sorry. Better things to do (lousy mildew!) ...

I love Eurovison, but I don't like hearing the songs before the night. It spoils the fun.

I used to feel the same way, Rice, but then I realized how many songs stuck with me after a second/third/one hundredth listen, so lately I've been trying to pregame more. Usually I have to hear a song more than once to fully get it, and I want to know a little background before I watch the event...but maybe that's just me

And the national selections are really priceless sometimes!

The best thing about Eurovision is that it is hosted in my country this year. The worst thing is that the tickets are extremely overpriced .

I still remember some of the songs from early 2000's when I was obsessed with it.

I used to make a list of the songs I liked, then over the next few days learn the words and download them

From that I now know songs in Icelandic, Estonian, Serbian, Russian..

Aw, what happened Rice? Obsessed no more? I'll admit I've only been watching and heavily consuming Eurovision since 2010, but I'm curious, has it really gotten worse or you just don't care that much anymore?

I don't think it's as good anymore. I liked it when each country had to sing in their native language.

I still watch it, but since 2008 I think, it's been a little too westernised.
