If you remember a eurodance band in the 90s called "Army of Lovers" well, they competed last night in the fourth semifinal of Melodifestivalen (the competition to decide which we send as Sweden's representative for Eurovision.). They have not sung together for 20 years...and still are not singing together as you can see by La Camillas lypsynching. Still, not a bad tune but as it placed sixth out of eight, it won't be going to the finals next week.

Oh no!
Germany, Russia, and Ireland have gone on to disappoint even me. I don't know why anyone in Germany thought would be a good idea to choose not only a) someone everyone already knows and is probably tired of and b) a song that basically sounds the same as last year. 4/10 - Although I don't like the song, there is at least some quality to her voice. Russia just released their track, which is, like seemingly every other song this year, a boring ballad. 2/10 - No hook. Crappy in general. What if we would open up the derse? Really, what if? Ireland is the most recent to disappoint. At least it's not Jedward, but still. 5/10 - A strangely catchy chorus, but nothing I would want to download or listen to again. Also somewhat screechy. And bad grammar. I give it 5 because it will definitely do well, and maybe it will grow on me. Or not. |

Keeping up with the latest.
I'm (dis)pleased to present Austria. This is a bit unique. I'm happy to rate it 6/10. I don't love the country voice, and I don't think she's all that talented, but I think it can do well. Also. Why is the crowd cheering randomly the whole way through? I like the downtempo bit, actually. Hmm. I might change my score later. And here's Croatia. Something about this sounds so Mexican to me. I'll give it 4/10, with most of the points coming from their boldness to actually send something as boring and dated as this. Language is beautiful, though. From our lovely neighbor Cyprus. Boring. Not sure why everyone on youtube likes this. Not a fan. Maybe I just don't like slow songs for Eurovision? (not true, but this season, yes). She has very good tone quality nonetheless. 3/10. Ughhhh...the torture is ongoing. 2013. BOOO. |

Well well well, I'm pleased to see that Bulgaria has actually gone on to pick its best song from the final.
Check out bagpipes with Samo Shampioni from Elitsa & Stoyan. I give it a very deserving 9/10, for SO MANY REASONS. Now THAT is class. Also, a very interesting and surprising dark horse entry from the Netherlands. Speculation is, it could go on to qualify the Netherlands in the final...for the first time in 20 years (I think). I don't love it, but I appreciate its dramatic and avant-garde style. 7.5/10. Cheers, Dutch people. I am still VERY confused about this piece of weirdness from Romania. I had hoped the contest would make it to Bucharest this year, but...no such luck. That gets a whopping -18392384/10, largely for disappointment. THANKS A LOT, Romanians. |

Yeah, I just heard it today. It's not sitting that well with me for some reason, and I'm giving it a couple more days before I give it a review. I really wanted Sean Banan to make it....he TRIES SO HARD... x)
Do you like it, lilja? |

I think it is a really good tune. . Not exactly an easy one to sing though..
The thing about Sean Banan is that I don't think he really cares about winning at all. He has already said that he is just trying to be memorable, which he is . |

We're getting closer and closer to the big week for Eurovision (33 days)! As you can imagine, I'm super pumped. I realized I forgot to list quite a few of the entires, all of which needed to be submitted by March 18/19.
Here's San Marino: I actually really enjoy this song, which is no less than SHOCKING since the same girl from the same country sent a complete piece of shat last year. Definitely in my top three. The only problem is that the ending is a bit strange, but I like it better than the rest of the song, really. Very Eurovision. 8/10 And the lovely entry from Norway: This song is wild. The dubstep (?) and the very eerie melody is almost too good for Eurovision. Also one of my favorites, but I don't see this winning. It kind of has a Mission Impossible vibe. Would make a good song for a movie soundtrack. 7/10 I'm not sure what to say about Armenia's weirdness this year: Hippie crap about saving the world, with no hook and very little musical talent. Sounds like a weird 80s pop rock ballad. 2/10 There's still more to come! GET EXICTED!!!!!!! |
