^Nice on the J Dilla!
I can see Dark Side as one big song but not the Wall. The Wall has always felt like a big bloated mess to me, granted, it's a big bloated mess with a lot of great moments in between. ("Run Like Hell, Goodbye Blue Sky, Hey You, In The Flesh, Mother, Comfortably Numb" etc) |

Well, it has been around 2 years since I heard the Wall and I was pretty young when I was big into it. Maybe my opinion on it has changed. I never thought "Money" particularly ruined the flow, although it definitely stuck out in the tracks as being the most radio-friendly and upbeat.

I think we all loved The Wall as kids just because of ABITW Part 2. I used to feel so rebellious writing the lyrics on my school work....

I mostly buy lofi metal releases and for those my preferred format is the cassette. The initial cost of purchasing is lower than CDs & significantly lower than vinyl, and because they're produced in limited runs they can increase in value as well. The sound quality is imperfect and degrades with time - but when the music is (genuinely) lofi, I don't see it as too big of a deal.
As far as recent fantastic deals, I got Proclamation's "Messiah of Darkness & Impurity" for $5, which is cool 'cuz I could sell it for $50.

Just been offered the following vinyls from a guy I messaged on Ebay:
The Velvet Underground & Nico Led Zeppelin 1, 2, 4, Physical Graffiti and Houses of the Holy Black Sabbath - Mater of Reality & Sabbath Bloody Sabbath Pink Floyd - DSOTM The Who - Who's Next £20 for all of them, they're all in good condition and are originals bought when they were released. I'm guessing I should bite his hand off? |

There's something about buying a new record, coming home with it, and putting it on the needle. You give it your full attention, no distractions, it feels like a ritual to me almost. Even when I get them in the mail, I still do the same thing. I really do prefer getting one at a time though, it gives me the feeling that I don't have worry about them piling up in my room, potentially not even being listened to. Well, that and I don't like having to worry about more than one thing at a time.
From what I experienced with CD's, it's a bit different, a bit more involved, more anticipation in hearing the sound coming from within the groves. I don't get the same feeling with CD's that I do with vinyl, after I'm done ripping a CD in a loseless format, it becomes an object that takes up space. |
