I think writing a nirvanaesque song would have been the wrong thing to do. I think doing something new and of their own was a better idea than doing an intentional imitation.

I agree. If they had tried to mimic Nirvana, people would have been offended and start saying that Paul McCartney is trying to replace Kurt Cobain. The way they did it was better, making their own sound instead of copying a pre existing one.

Also, I don't remember reading anywhere that they were supposed to be mimicking Nirvana.

I have already seen some negative comments around the web, I can imagine it would be a million times worse if Paul tried to sound like Kurt. Paul doesn't need to sound like anyone but himself.

Pretty much. I was shocked to find that I do enjoy it, because I was doubtful, but Paul still sounds great. If they plan to release anything other than the one song that they performed, i'd be willing to buy a full album.

Of course. I would like to hear a full release. I'm a fan of both nirvana and Paul, so I'm not really surprised that I liked it. There was plenty of potential for it to be bad, like if they would have done a nirvana song or mimicked a nirvana song.

And yeah, Paul sounded great.

Anyone notice how often he was touching his hair? And at the end when all the fireworks went off, it blasted his hair; afterwards, he seemed somewhat frantic as he was trying to fix it. His hair looked great for a 70 year old, so it thought it was strange. Maybe he has some fake extensions or something. I just thought it was kind of strange.

I thought there was something weird about that, but I will admit that I do find him to be a very attractive old man. He had a cute face when he was younger, but he definitely didn't grow out of his looks.

When I first heard about this, I imagine Paul singing Smells Like Teen Spirit and twitched a little. I was glad to see they wrote new (good) material. I don't think they should've billed it as a Nirvana reunion, though. Not only did they not have Kurt (and obviously never could), but they didn't play any Nirvana songs.

Oh yeah he looks great for his age. That's why I thought it was strange. His hair didn't look bad at all, probably looks better than mine and he's almost four times older than me. that's why I thought maybe there was something going on there he was trying to hide.

Kanye was kind of out of place. His was a lame performance.

I never expected Paul to sound like anyone but himself, I wouldn't have wanted him to try singing like Kurt or anything. He sounded just fine. I just felt the music was very plain "hard rock" style as compared to Nirvana's sound. More like Foo Fighters I guess, who I don't enjoy, and I shouldn't be surprised. Kind of the way Janes Addiction, Soundgarden and the like have evolved into an average hard rock sound. For all we know that's where Nirvana would be right now if they were still together anyway.

Agreed, I never liked the term reunion in relation to this. Three members are joined by an external singer to write and perform one song, with no covers, that's not a reunion as much as it is a "supergroup" type one-off benefit collaboration. But hey, "reunion" gets people to look.

I'd love to see your signature/links too, but the huge and obnoxious ones have caused me to block all signatures.
