I respect Hendrix as a person too and say that being fully aware of his shortcomings. I read a couple different books and watched several different biographies on the man. He wasn't perfect but I don't think he wanted to be perfect in any aspect of life except his music. Life was never intended for us all to be perfect and the same, and molds each of us into what fate intended for us to be all along. Some of us are a lil nicer and more stable or prosperous. But that doesn't mean you can write off the latter as unrespectable. Of course that's just my opinion

I agree with all that, and found that Jimi definitely sounds like a person I'd respect if I met him. He also came from a very broken household which I think can explain a lot of his problems.

Indeed he did, and while he had problems I still think he triumphed over a lot of potential for complete failure. I think in some cases what leaves people with certain problems in life, can also serve as the inspiration behind their creative genius. Also personality wise as well, cause given Hendrix's upbringing I'd be willing to bet based off of just what I've read and seen that he was for the underdog in life. Despite whatever vices or other problems he may have had that stemmed from his upbringing as well. For him it was like the curse that was his cure but did the good out weigh what we deem the bad enough to label him respectable? Yeah...by a longshot imo.

I agree with everything you said about Jimi. Of course he was great. I like him very much, but the thing I talked about is that: with his first big money he buys a car with all of them, and many more examples like that. He makes decisions that hasn't thought over. My best friend is exactly the same, I mean 100%, and it's a really bad part of the character and it's really hard to live with that kind of people. This is the only bad thing that I can say about Hendrix's personality, but it's enough to put him outside the top 5 most respected musicians.

He grew up in a dirt poor household, I think this was his response to the freedom he felt of suddenly have a ****load of expendable money.

Mhm, but would you say the same about Jim Morrison? I'm not intimately familiar with his childhood, but I know he went to film school at UCLA, which at least suggests he probably grew up in a stable household.

To be honest I don't know the first thing about Jim Morrison outside of his music. So I couldn't even begin to speculate.

Well, of course everything a person wants is due to something from his subconcious mind, but you shouldn't let the passions lead you. If you are a thinking man, you shouldn't make unthought decisions. We went too far. This is for the philosophical threads. The bottom line is that I have much respect for Jimi, but he has only that one part of the character which stops me putting him among the 5-6 most respected musicians.

Indeed, if we go down this path we'll just end with a "no action is genuine" and every action can be explained by a previous one mentality.
