Janszoon responded to someone else in another thread...that person had said something to the effect of there not being one-hit wonders anymore...and Janszoon said well you know you have to wait a few years and then look back and you can pick out the one-hit wonders.

Along with posting well known one-hitters, I want to also post some predictions of one-hit wonders....

This is my first prediction...La Roux with Bulletproof...that song popped up and made some progress and then I never heard from them again. Is this already a one-hit wonder or is there something I don't know.

True, he had a hit when he was with Sweeny Todd with the great and sleazy "Roxy Roller" (You know the one used in the Runaways flick!), but solo-wise, this was his claim to fame. Decided to go for a performance clip for that serious Retro style.

(PS: He co-wrote "The Warrior" performed by Scandal)

Led by Ex-Mickey Mouse Club member Dick Dodd and produced, and on this song written, by The Four Preps' Ed Cobb (Cobb was the one who wrote Tainted Love, by the way!). This was their only US Top 40 from what I remember, but it's a great one!

They strangled and brutalized the song so much that this version lives in a world of it's own. That's a good thing, by the way.

Also featured in the movie Troll!

Kick ass and heavy for 1966, great for eternity!

Sean Bonniwell RIP.

Keith Olsen turned into a huge hit-making Producer with a roll call including Grateful Dead, Rick Springfield, Pat Bennitar, and Fleetwood Mac!

Just to let you know that someone editing merged my posts with someone else on Page 9. These are the ones I posted.

Ok here's one to stir up the hornet's nest....Eddy Grant...I've been told he's very successful elsewhere but the only song I really remember is 'Electric Avenue'. i do remember 'Romancing the stone', but did it do well on the charts?

Also does anyone know his other songs he had success without outside the US?

Eddy Grant - Electric Avenue - YouTube

Eddy Grant had a lot of success here in the U.K but TBH he was kinds cheesy and regarded as Reggae Pop but this was a classic:

These two have gotten multiple mentions and I love these songs...I like to post links to those hard to find video clips of the artist....

*This version of Big Country is part of some kind of 'short film' called Bad Taste, actually done by PETER JACKSON...some of it is kind of graphic, well you know for 1980s, and not very good, but I thought it was interesting enough to show

And BANG A GONG

Marc Bolan \ Bang A Gong (Get It On) - YouTube

Big Country had plenty of hits here such as:

I think this album (Steeltown) is really good)

As for Marc Bolan take your pick:

and of course this classic with his band T Rex:

*now I'm waiting on one of you, most likely screen13 or Kelli to tell me these aren't one-hit wonders...I swear you guys know too much about music

Nope, you got it right, haha. Haddaway had a few other minor hits in the UK but that's really the only song they're known for. & I guess I only come off as knowing a lot about music because most of this thread we've been talking 90s which is the decade I grew up in so I know the most about. I'd be pretty lost in any other decade, lol. :D

edit; oh yeah, T-rex! Jeepster is the jam too. Gotta love them songs!

Urban Hat€monger ? 11-29-2012 07:39 PM

If we're going by the criteria set in the original post this lot qualify

slappyjenkins 11-29-2012 07:42 PM

Oh sure I've seen debates about 'one-hit' wonders that render Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, and several other greats as one-hit wonders. We'd really have to get out sales charts from the US and the UK and everywhere else and compare and that's just too tedious. I enjoy how the thread is going, we're posting those songs we think are one-hitters and gaining a wealth of knowledge in the responses. So....carry on!

Urban Hat€monger ? 11-29-2012 07:55 PM

I'm listing them because they only released one single in the UK.

So they are a one hit wonder, nothing to debate about it.

Kelli 11-29-2012 07:58 PM

Call me an idiot, but....

I just realized Stairway to Heaven was never a released as a single anywhere.

MIND. BLOWN.

slappyjenkins 11-29-2012 07:58 PM

Nobody is debating anything.....I say again....carry on.....
