When Hasbeen Women Try To Be Singers...
There is this woman who lives in Astoria, shes a bartender and grew up a hick somewhere upstate. She is way past her prime and she actually believes, despite having absolutely no talent or a voice at all, that she will make it big. It's so damn sad to watch her writhe on stage with a bunch of hack musicians. Trust me, you will feel cheated if you pay to see her band beeater or giftshop or whatever its called. Go watch an opera instead. It's way more interesting than watching some slut try to be a musician.

Sounds like it, or that someone is not all too happy about someone still trying to do something instead of just hanging it up. The OP's other topic was about Bee Eater (the actual name of the band). Both Bee Eater and Giftshop featured the vocals of Meghan Taylor (The OP target, apparently), and it seems that she has tired through the last decade to start something in the very hard to get into world of music, and from what I heard of Giftshop, at least it's a little catchy in a Early 80's way. It sounds like one of those bands who tried to go on Blondie Road, and at least the influence shows up in the music and not just being from the NY area. The actual Gift Shop site is no longer with us (looking through the Internet Archive), but I found this YouTube to add some detail, dating back a couple of years. It's super tough to get anywhere in Music, but you have to at least say that they tried beyond just putting up a MySpace and leaving it there. Sour Grapes, Shut Down, or Against anyone over 25, you be the judge... |

You know this isn't a local music board right? Which Astoria? NYC? Oregon? Do you know how many ****ty bar bands there are out there. Trying to reason this out - why you posted it, your motives - its actually making me angry.

As for the OP's intentions, I'm with you. It does sound a bit too personal. |

i half want to make a post:
"You guys, don't go Trina's Starlight Lounge on Tuesdays, because the whore on stage thinks Jamaica but she's clearly white and can't sing and her dreads are fake. She's from plympton but she thinks she's from eleven mile. plus her bassist is ****ing her on the side. What a stupid bitch."

Well, the Wayback Machine showed that the file for the snapshots for the Gift Shop site are not there anymore. Can't say anything more than it looked like they went down Avenue C-Ya two years back with maybe an odd gig here and there.
Nothing too great, but passable - should consider just posting their old tracks on something like Soundcloud or any of the other pages better known for music and people who will listen instead of MySpace, where it turned into nothingness then Bieberville during the time frame of Gift Shop's stay. Over at SD, there may be a limited audience, but one that's better at actually listening to the music than a bar. I'm sure fans of Late 70's-Early 80's music will find something to hear there. |
