Jon Anderson has never really been the type to write a song that makes any sense. Though, I noticed that if you look at the lyrics without the music, it's like he's reciting poetry. Animation is my favorite album by him, and the lyrical aspect is not even a reason for it. It's just a fun album to listen to. I never really have taken his lyrics seriously to begin with, don't think I ever will.

Agreed. That lady may be spewing nonsense but it's gorgeous nonsense.
Apparently, they often just pluck random words straight out of a dictionary when writing songs.

Every song by Blue Öyster Cult was surrealistic and unintelligible. That was why I loved BÖCs music so much back in the period that I was suffering from a psychosis. If I wanted to be facetious I would say that "BÖC made music for psychos!"

But when by chance I began listening to the really *weird* music on my sister´s two BÖC albums in 1973 (their first two albums) the weirdness of that music appealed to me so much that I at long last became motivated to focus for significant spans of time on *something* out there in reality. Some might say that listening to BÖCs first two albums was just as much a waste of time as daydreaming for hours on end. But it *was* a start. One thing led to another and eventually (with the major assistance of the anti-psychotic medication chlorpromazine) I began focusing on lots of other things out there in reality and eventually I began to function "normally". So I owe a major debt of gratitude to those five heavy metal boys from Stony Brook University! |
