Bob Dylan Vs. David Bowie

Which one you prefer ? :)

Urban Hat€monger ? 08-25-2012 11:03 AM

why?

Key 08-25-2012 11:04 AM

Bob Dylan, I guess.

Duraddict 08-25-2012 11:06 AM

Odd...comparison... but Bowie.

14232949 08-25-2012 11:06 AM

Remember this is a forum. Basic A or B questions aren't enough. What do you see in Dylan and Bowie that pairs them together? Give us a little insight. :)

Goofle 08-25-2012 11:12 AM

Bowie obviously, but strange comparison.

Trollheart 08-25-2012 12:03 PM

There's nothing to compare. Two completely different styles. Which do you prefer, Chopin or Motorhead?

Key 08-25-2012 12:07 PM

Guess the OP wants to see what we'd choose. For unknown reasons.

Trollheart 08-25-2012 12:11 PM

So do I. Which do you prefer then, Chopin or Motorhead? :D:D:D

Key 08-25-2012 12:12 PM

Chopinhead.

Somebody needs to start a band called this, preferably one that plays heavy metal interpretations of classical pieces.

Trollheart 08-25-2012 12:43 PM

Possible track names: "The ace of preludes", "No sleep till the end of the concert", "Die you not very nice person", "Overkill sonata in B Major", "(We are) not the road crew", "(Do not allow them to) Grind you down" and many more.

In fact, why not compose more metal/classical crossover tunes?

Franco Pepe Kalle 08-25-2012 01:56 PM

I would have to go with Bob Dylan. Bob Dylan is a better musician than David Bowie has even or ever will be.

I don't know what this is, but it's what I got for searching Chopin Heavy Metal into Youtube. 0_o

Exactly, they're such different artists so how are we meant to compare? These threads don't really achieve much.

Urban Hat€monger ? 08-25-2012 06:02 PM

Dylan had better taste in hats but David wore lipstick better.

I don't think he wore a hat, did he? But he was cool!

I feel bad for the OP. :(

vktr 08-25-2012 08:49 PM

David Bowie, no question.

Franco Pepe Kalle 08-25-2012 10:31 PM

I say that they are lot more stupider comparisons than David Bowie and Bob Dylan.

TVC15 08-26-2012 12:38 AM

Because you cannot compare them based on their music, you must compare based on attractiveness.
Bowie is a better musician because he is much more attractive.

:rolleyes:If this is going to be the quality of the responses on here, this thread should really be locked down. First prize here though, surely must go to TVC15.

In which case, Nick Cave and Tom Waits must be AWFUL musicians, right?
:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

I agree: close this thread please mods. It's gong nowhere, it means nothing and it's just getting embarrassing now. It meant nothing when it was started, and hasn't gained anything along the way (other than my picture of Dylan, of course...) :) Why let it suffer? Don't you have any humanity? Put the poor thing out of its misery, it's the kindest thing to do.

Can you please tell me how David Bowie is better than Bob Dylan. I would love to know.

Howard the Duck 08-28-2012 11:45 PM

apples and oranges

love both

more good than bad albums

Neapolitan 08-29-2012 12:10 AM

The Byrds versus oF Montreal

Change of topic: a cover song of Dylan versus a cover song of Bowie.

AaronKent 08-29-2012 08:11 AM

Bowie. Dylan's great, but Bowie is better.

both are excruciatingly horrible, IMHO

although the Byrds' one has a pleasant backdrop

it's just nothing, compared to the original

Franco Pepe Kalle 08-29-2012 01:17 PM

I think someone should keep looking for more covers of Bowie and Dylan and then judge.

I agree. Although I've never been able to take totally to Bowie -- he's too theatrical for me. Not that I don't admire Bowie as an artist, because I do. I think he's been just as influential as Dylan. It's just with Bowie I sense this wall of theatricality around him and it keeps me from feeling "close" to him as a listener, if that makes any sense.

Why judge based on covers on them when we can judge them based on the music they already made.

I guess you make a good point.

blastingas10 08-29-2012 06:37 PM

Dylan by a long shot. I like some of Bowies music, just not as much as Dylan. I think Dylan was a much better wordsmith. I don't agree that Bowie was as innovative and influential either. Bowie was more theatrical, more about his image. Dylan shunned his public Image, even famously revolted against it by going electric. Dylan is a bad ass.

Really? How would you say Bowie was innovative, which albums should I get to see Bowie at his most innovative? Was it just in the music you felt this or in his overall performance?

Give me examples of where you feel Dylan was a great wordsmith.

Don't just leave posts filled with fluff to make it seem like you think you know what you're talking about actually show something.

You're just an attention seeking fraud.

Janszoon 08-29-2012 08:53 PM

Bowie, easily. Dylan is okay but I've always thought he was kind of overrated, especially in the lyric department. Bowie had a more varied and more interesting career and... well... he played more instruments. Plus, most importantly, he wrote more songs that I like than Dylan did.

vktr 08-29-2012 08:59 PM

Here is industrial Bowie:

Show me industrial Dylan :D
