How about John "Stumpy" Pepys? Unfortunately he died in 1966 in a "bizarre gardening accident" that the authorities said was "best left unsolved".

what is it with drummers and mishappenstance... they seem to invite tragic irony and apperatus based injury?

I'm guessing this is a reply to me.

My reasoning for my nomination is that Krupa was one of the greatest drummers of the 20th century and he had an aggressive style that would very much lend itself to a heavy rock environment. As far as I know, he never played with any rock bands, but it would have been great to hear him give it a try. Since I now have the chance to bring him back from the dead and restore him to his 1930s/1940s level of ability, I'd love to hear him give it a shot.

I'm not really down with drummers --- one sounds pretty much the same to me, as I've mentioned before. But for pure honest rock style, how about exhuming Colin Flooks, aka Cozy Powell?

Yeah, I like him, but his last two albums were --- how can I put this --- a touch, well, mechanical...

Milford Graves. Free jazz drummer, totally insane. I would love hearing him take a stab at other kinds of music.

After 'ol "Moog" went off into Ambient projects, the albums were never the same. Still, that first one (found used, cut out, with shrink wrap and Rinks $1.00 sticker) was a killer Debut!

I got it, but I decided to make a somewhat constructive post for once rather than start a Spinal Tap quote-fest. :)
